Can the OE speakers be replaced with a conventional or at least smaller (less deep) speaker that is compatible with the OE head unit? The car is not a daily driver and I don't want to spend much money here, just retain rear deck sound. Alternatively, how can the OE speakers be modified to provide clearance for the upper adjuster knob? Bob Dorchester Houston 95 M3 (4/94 build)

The only issue is that they seem to "flat spot" overnight. The first morning that I drove the car with the new tires, I thought I had a flat or something.. After a mile or so they seem to be fine, and for the rest of the day they are fine.. Another data point. I've had RE750's on my '95M3 since June. (Well the snow are still on right now, but will be coming off soon.) Overall, I'm pleased with the 750's. They are supposed to be quieter than the 730's and seem to handle about the same. Perhaps a little better in the wet. We'll see about the noise. So far they are quiet, but the 730's at half tread were much nosier than my older Blizzaks that I have on now. I actually thought my wheel bearings were shot until I put the snows on and the noise went away. I got about 32,000 miles out of the 730's, which is about two years for me. This mileage included about 6 autocrosses. I expect to do about the same with the 750's. Kevin D. McLeaster WB9HMI '95 M3 Arctic Silver

Hudson" <jwhud@budget.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] 95 M3 Rear Speakers and DA Koni Shocks If you have the 10 speaker system, there are actually 2 drivers on each side in the rear. A midbass driver and a tweeter. They are contained in a plastic housing, which takes up all the room. Each driver has it's own pair of wires. The problem with replacing the speakers is twofold. 1) Neither pair of wires carries a full range signal. Each pair of wires has a crossover located inside the factory amp. Therefore, it's very difficult to replace the mid/tweeter pair with an aftermarket coaxial speaker. A coaxial speaker wants a full range signal on a single pair of wires. 2) Although you could easily install an aftermarket component set (midbass/tweeter) and eliminate the housing that takes up trunk space, the built-in crossovers in the factory amp may not be appropriate for the new drivers. It might sound great and it might be a downgrade. If you decide to do aftermarket speakers, you'd probably want to do a 5.25" mounted from above. That way you'd have less of the basket and magnet hanging down in the trunk. I notice in the pictures that you have the classic weeping power steering hose @ the reservoir. I'd remove those clamps and replace them before that becomes a bigger headache. As the saying goes; BTDT. Is the underpanel already missing? Looks like you may have 2 of the more common issues already. Soon you'll be replacing the reverse light switch in the trans, clutch pedal bushings, etc, etc.... Even with all these faults, I still smile every time I get behind the wheel. I guess I'll be crawling under some other M3's at the RMC autocross this weekend :) The clutch pedal creaks and has significant lateral movement and the "check brake light circuit" has come on a couple of times. So I have at least 4 of the common problems. The good news it that the engine is silent. No classic M3 tick, tick, tick on idle. I added an extra 1/4 quart of oil in preparation for Saturday's autocross. I have been autocrossing for a few years now, but have never run an M3. Anything else I should do?
