I know that there is a way to retrieve the ECU engine codes w/the accelerator pedal but I'm not exactly sure how it works. Could somebody please enlighten me as on how to do this? TIA, Luis

Just use them til they drop below spec and replace them. Marc Plante E36 325i, 220k E36M3/4, 49k Vienna, VA

From a theoretical standpoint downforce in the front should be counteracted with downforce in the rear. So, if you put a splitter on the front you might want to compliment it with a spoiler or wing in the rear. And of course it depends upon the application. For street use, the splitter / wing combo might have a slightly noticeable affect when driving at speeds that would result in a fine. For driving events on high speed courses (with a proficient driver of course), front downforce without rear downforce could create added pressure to the front wheels and minimixed pressure to the rear wheels, resulting in undesireable results in your steering input. Or to simplify, when I read "Race Car Aerodynamics" they said that you should equalize the front and rear. Also, if the ~$200 is just for that little lip, you may be able to buy some styrofoam at the local hardware store, sculpt a mold out of it, buy a fiberglass kit and instruction manual (I like www.fiberglast.com), and create your own fiberglass spoiler for about the same amount of money (not including time). I use this part, and it is very light and a little flimsy, and doesn't extend nearly as much as the motorsport splitter. I drilled new holes so I could extend it another inch and then I shored it up with retaining wire running through little holes in the front and up through the mouth of the grille to the bumper support and now it works great. Big different in how it attaches - the motorsport bolts on with a bunch of hardware and you're supposed to epoxy the RD splitter on. I didn't want to epoxy it so I used several nuts and bolts in the leading edge and some in the side. Overall it's not as pretty but it works and is a LOT cheaper than the motorsport part. -Mike -----Original Message----- From: Jeremy Lucas [mailto:jlucas@columbus.rr.com] Sent: Friday, February 27, 2004 9:24 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] one more, any experience with RD spoiler? To remove the shiny "glaze", I rough up the rotors by hand, using course emery or wet/dry sanderpaper. It helps the new pads bed-in and reduces squeal. I also have used a dual-action sander (the rotary kind, used for auto-body) to cut the glaze. It worked for me, but it ate up the sandpaper. It probalby won't be even (you get high spots and low spots), but whats a couple of microns ... lol ... never noticed any "brake-pedal pulsations". good luck, Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary A. Has anyone tried the metal (brass?) caliper guide bushing sets? Feedback? Also, should I take a random orbital sander to the rotors? The rotors where replaced the last brake job. One more thing.my emergency brakes don't work worth squat. I know that I did not clean the inside of the rear rotors last time and was wondering if I needed new pads for that as well. Thanks. Gary

Date: Sat, 28 Feb 2004 12:56:37 -0800 (PST) From: Zack Steinkamp <edsarkiss@yahoo.com> Subject: Colonel Klunk group -- today i noticed a klunk coming from the engine of my 98 M3/4. it seems to be coming from the exhaust manifold area. i put this web page together with an MP3 and a picture of where the sound is coming from. (yeah, i'm a nerd). http://nobot.2y.net/m3/klunk.html i'd appreciate if anyone could possibly enlighten me as to what the possibilities are here. to help isolate the sound, i removed the radiator fan and accessory drive belts to make sure that wasn't the culprit (i had replaced the belt and reverse light switch earlier today). thanks! zs
