Uncovered and tried to fire up my car yesterday to find the battery dead. Car started fine after a charge, but the radio needs a code. I can't find the code anywhere, I could swear the PO gave me the code with the car though. Seems I've heard to take the radio out and get the serial number off the back and with the # a dealer will give me the code? Anyone know of a simpler way? If not, how difficult is the removal of the radio? Thanks! Kurt

They won't give you the code if you take them just the radio's serial number, nor even with the radio in your hand. Either of those could be a sign you had stolen the radio. Instead, you must drive to the dealer and let them pull the head out of the dash. They'll look up the serial number on their network, write down the code for you, and give you a lesson in how to type it into the radio :-) -- Bob Sutterfield '9? Did that for my son's 325is when his battery died last year. Fortunately since I bought my M3 there and my son and I both had deposits on E46 M3s at the time, he didn't make our life miserable, just took the VIN and looked up the code. The upper brake light on my 96' M3 doesn't light anymore. -- the light bulb is OK. -- the other brake lights are OK. How do I trouble shoot this problem -or- is it easier to rewire it from one of the other functioning brake lights. BTW: The internal trunk light has the same problem. Where is the switch that controls the trunk light? Thanks, Scott

Swap with the bulb on the other side and see if it follows the bulb or not. If it follows the bulb, replace it, regardless of how it looks. >BTW: The internal trunk light has the same problem. #8. Help! Injector ends cracked, no part no in ETK - from K Quistorff

Date: Sun, 29 Feb 2004 09:39:43 -0500 From: "K Quistorff" <kqkq@nc.rr.com> Subject: Help! Injector ends cracked, no part no in ETK Decided to do my M50 intake manifold swap yesterday and ran into a problem w/the injectors. When I pulled the fuel rail out of the S52 intake manifold, several of the green plastic tips on the injectors were damaged, leaving a small piece of each tip broken off. Hoping to get some replacements quickly, I checked my ETK disc and found no listing for these green tips (or the o-ring just above the green tips - the one that seals the intake manifold) - the only injector parts shown are the injector body and the upper o-ring (the one that seals the fuel rail). Anyone know if these green plastic tips and/or lower o-rings are available separately, or am I stuck buying entire new injectors? I really don't want to risk putting it back together with the old/worn/broken pieces, 'cause that fuel rail is a really tight fit. Thanks for any help. Keith Quistorff 1996 M3 Cary, NC

#10. engine bay connecter help needed! - from Chris Conner

Date: Sun, 29 Feb 2004 14:45:58 -0500 From: "Chris Conner" <chris@digital7.com> Subject: engine bay connecter help needed! I took advantage of the warm weather today and cleaned up my s50 intake manifold install. Unfortunately, I dislodged a connector, and I can't find out what it is, or where it goes! Any help would be MUCH appreciated. It is a plug connector with a single conductor. It is ziptied to the alternator harness. It says "CODE 1", and has 4 separate part numbers (Code I through Code IV), none of which I can find in ETK. http://m3.digital7.com/bmwplug.jpg There are a different set of part numbers on each side of the connector. 1 427 615 9 seems to make the most sense, but I can't look it up! I did try starting the car with it unplugged, it fires and then immediately dies. Help!! Please send any emails to me directly. Chris
