Track pads for the track, but you were looking for pads for street/autox use that don't squeal, have adequate stopping power, and no corrosive dust. Stockers? ;) Chester =====

They are the same compound as the HP+ though so there should be less steel wool needed to clean your rotors ;) IMO they have good modulation and nice torque but they do tend to leave a bit of deposit on the rotor that needs a good 80 to 5mph cleaning now and again. Oh, and I've noticed that they need a bit of a touch on the pedal to dry them in the rain before they will grab. In a nutshell: Better stop than OE, less dust but more $. I agree that Axxis Ultimates are junk - they are MetalMasters in a new box. -- Walter

I believe it probably has something to do with the car sitting in the garage, barely being driven or started, except for moving it in and out of the garage. I try to let it run for 5 minutes or so when I do take it out of the garage. It just started happening this past weekend, so I not too worried about it, yet. Yes, Imola Red, supposedly the same as the newer M3's and M5's. It came from the factory this way. They've sort of got a reputation of being cranky when cold - my '97 certainly was when it lived in MA. I heard someone before saying that the initial high revs that eventually settle down are par for the course. However, I've not experienced a near-stall when puhsing on the pedal, when my engine was started cold I'd get the high revs, then I'd blip the gas a bit and it would calm down to the normal 700. Now that I've gotten that out of the way: IMOLA RED E36 M3? whoa... Individual color? got any pics?

There's a factory mounting kit for the rear spoiler, consisting of fasteners plus some die-cut double-sided tape. There may even be instructions, I forget. For a fresh installation you'd apply the adhesive parts and use them as drilling templates. I have this kit from when my wife closed the garage door while I was still parking the car - yes, we're still married - and it hit the wing. In the end neither I not the body show could get the factory wing off because the adhesive was so strong, so it was repainted in place. If I can find the kit (!) you can have it for small money - let me know off-Digest. Neil 96 M3

Anyway, I wrote in yesterday about my ABS and ASC lights coming on and somebody replied (can't remember, I deleted the message already) that it was likely a dead battery. Well, it was a dead battery. It died 3/4 of a mile from the house, on a main road, while I was in a turning lane ;-) So I paid for a tow home and threw the battery from the race car in and it ran fine. Too bad BMW couldn't have spent $10 on a volt meter to save me the $80 tow. Oh well. For everybody else's edification, when the instrument cluster starts lighting up like a Christmas tree in a really random manner and the guages start jumping wildly and the dash lights start dimming, pull over where you can park it and get a cab home to your truck and trailer, like I should have done. Excellent cold stopping power, and they're adequate for autox, I would imagine. I seem to recall them handling a couple 100-40mph slows before they start fading much. Zach

Date: Tue, 2 Mar 2004 13:46:27 -0800 (PST) From: David Ngo <rudngo@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Brake pads (Again) I've had the Hawk HPS pads and currently run the R4Ss. I autocross my car all the time. The Hawks were okay but I didn't really like the pedal feel - no matter how many times I bled the brakes (with pressure, without pressure, tapping the calipers with a mallet) it always felt like there was still some air in the system. The dusting properties were awesome - virtually no dust and very easy to clean. However, they were the second loudest pads I've ever used (a little shy of PF90s), regardless of how much anti-squeal goop I used. The Porterfields are a little better in terms of pedal feel, but still not the same as stock (or Movits!) They dust some more, but it's not too bad. Still easy to wash off, too. Stopping power is good for autox, especially when they've got a bit of heat in them. They've been pretty quiet for me with some of the typical orange goop, though they can squeal a bit under the right conditions. Others on the list have had far worse experiences. :-) Dave --- DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> wrote: > Date: Tue, 2 Mar 2004 12:26:34 -0800 (PST) > From: DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> > Subject: Brake pads (Again) > > Yeah, yeah, I know. Did a my first oil/filter change last night and noticed in the Bentley manual that the 3.2L calls for 6.3 qts of oil. I've seen a bunch of posts on various lists and how-tos claiming you should use 7 qts. Motor is stock. I guess I should trust the Bentley manual but I have seen enough posts that I want to make sure. TIA! This is an awesome list, BTW! Dave 98 M3/4 Antioch, CA
