Well, before going that far, why not just pull of the brake pads and make sure the inner pad still has the clips. On my track pads (no clips), they would make similar noises in situations as you describe. The slight release of fluid pressure by being off the brakes was enough to cause the pad to float between the piston and rotor, resulting in a "click" as the piston engaged the pad. Or maybe you're missing a outboard rattle clip. Or just reapply some anti-squeal compound (which tends to help hold the outboard pad to the bracket, keeping it quiet). I would think you'd need to inspect the caliper piston boots anyway, before determining they need to be rebuilt. Generally, if the dust boots aren't ripped/torn/melted/dislodged from the caliper, you shouldn't need to do a caliper rebuild IMO. > My other questions are related to Inspection 2. Have a bucket or catch-pan handy for the fuel filter change, easier than cleaning gas off of the garage floor (BTDT :-)). Also, I use a 5/8" spark plug socket. Snap-On one with a magnet in it. Very nice, but then I have 2 cars to change plugs on. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5

I ended up using a procedure very similar to Bob's. Only that to installed a friend of mine just hammered in in place while I held the RA. He used a rubber hammer and made it look easy, definitely not for the inexperienced. I'm doing my brake calipers soon, so I'll be interested in any info too. I already ordered the repair kits. Yes, the spark plug replacement is very easy. I used the tool on the trunk lid. You need high temp anti seize compound for the treads. That clicking could just be a missing anti-rattle spring clip. They are on the outside of the caliper (you can check w/o removing the wheel) and cost about $2...

I must just be tired. But hey, at least it's not a "test" message! How come the first thing I thought of when I saw "Tire size on an 8 inch rim" was a lowrider M3 with 100 spoke daytons, 8" in diameter, sticking fully out of the wheel wells? .... best to go with some wide rubber so when you're hittin' the switches, you don't damage those wheels... sorry again, i apologize. - reid On Mar 12, 2004, at 05:50, Paul Smith wrote: > Date: Fri, 12 Mar 2004 08:42:19 -0500 > From: Paul Smith <Paul.Smith@ontariosystems.com> > Subject: Tire size on 8 inch rim > > I am running stock suspension on my 98 M3/4 with the BBS Rks needing > new > skins. It replaces the center vent, radio area, and HVAC controls. It's very, very slick. But probably not what you're looking for. :) In any case, I fabbbed my own plate and sourced my own gauges and senders, but I still bought the wiring harness from Eastern Motorwerks. Nothing I couldn't have done myself, but their harness is plug-and-play. Really, really convenient. They sell full kits, too. Check 'em out. - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net

#9. Replacing the Stereo with a later model - from Martin Bullen

Date: Fri, 12 Mar 2004 11:37:54 -0500 From: Martin Bullen <vze322dw@verizon.net> Subject: Replacing the Stereo with a later model I just replaced the C33 radio/cassette in my Z3 with a CD43 single CD player, so I'm considering installing the newer head unit into my '95 M3. However, the M3 is a pre- i-bus car, and I don't want to lose the ability to use the existing trunk-mounted CD changer. Is there an adapter to let a later radio control an earlier CD changer? Thanks, Martin Bullen '95 M3 '97 Z3 2.8

I had them source all the components for me (gauges, senders, harness) as well as fab the panel for me. Worked great, the harness was WELL worth it. Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5
