JimB, you're wrong...there's another Jim on this list...JimE and he was the cause of this story. Now every dedicated enthusiast has three sets of wheels: street, winter, and track. JimE is one cheap-ass mofo and only has a track set. Needless to say, this combo proved to be a very poor choice when coming back from a track event last July when we encountered monsoon like rain! Well, that lesson still didn't teach him and he still only has a track set. A track event was scheduled and whaddya know...all three set of my wheels would be used that weekend. Because rain was in the forecast and we didn't want to be slowed down by JimE and his track rubber (he *always* slows us down...it's an amazement that the Egyptians were able to build them pyramids), I loaned him my S03s. I would have put them on my car and put my snows on his car, but that would just take more time and knowing him, he'd derive some pleasure scrubbing off rubber from my new snow set. Saturday morning rolls around and we arrive to the track a bit late and there's a sense of rush all around us. We roll in with Wayne on his streets, Jim on my streets and me on my snows. What's that in the distance? Rainclouds? O damn...pretty soon the sky opens up and no one wants to be in the rain. Our first run session is coming up and it doesn't look like the rain is going to let up. Mr. Smartypants offers to swap my snows for my streets, but what's the point? I wouldn't even have time to put the track pads and rotors on. So I explain to my instructor (a list member...finally an instructor who doesn't a) smell, b) suck or c) weigh 300 lbs) the situation and that I only intended on running reconnaissance laps as I'm unfamiliar with the track. He's cool with it and out we go. Holy shat! Michelin Pilot Alpins just didn't like turning at speed on a wet track....tread squirm city. As luck would have it, Wayne passes me and shortly thereafter, Jim passes me. I bet you that mofo was grinning all the way to the checkered flag! Of course, after the event, it's time to settle up since I put up the funds for the hotel. How much do you think I should charge for wheel rental? He thinks I'm kidding when I suggest $200 for premature snow tire wear... Chester BTW, about option (a) under the list of instructor attributes, you know it's bad when you're on the back straight at Watkins Glen on a Summer day doing 135 with both windows down, a full faced helmet on, the visor shut and you can still smell your instructor. Rolling into the paddock area, he wants to go over the last run and all you're thinking is, "GET THE HELL OUT!!! Smell ya later!" --- Jim Bassett <jim@jimbassett.com> wrote: > LOL! > > Three things I miss: > 1. JimC's presence on the list > 2. Jim Powell's presence on the list > 3. Chester stories =====

I've checked the RTAB's (they were fine), replaced the tie-rods and the "play" remains. Next in line is the lower control arm bushings. If anybody comes up with more info after having replaced the rack or LCAB's, please post it to the list or let me know privately. Thanks. Might as well swap them out, especially if you've never replaced them. Have you ever replaced your control arms? Also, are there any other weird things going on that you can feel when driving? I had something that felt like a slight shimmy under braking - changing the worn tie rod fixed that. I recently replaced the seats with vaders from a 1995 M3. There is a sensor in the 97 seats that detects if a passenger is in the seat for the airbag. I could not find a connector for this sensor on the 95 vader seats. Does anyone know of a workaround for this problem? Thanks, Hunt Hodgetts, Atlanta __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Keep in mind these are only 2-3 weeks old. There seemed to be more than normal carbon build up on the plugs, I guess more than normal espically for only a few weeks old. Odd note, on # 5 there seemed to be oil on the tip and the last 1/4 of the tread. Does this mean I have a bad seal? I'm looking up the procedures tonight to see if this is a few day DYI project or more of a "day job by Ben Thongsai" type project. I did however got an appointment with fields BMW tomorrow morning, unless I come up with some other better solutions. Against my better judgement, I did drive the car home because I had no other way of getting home and possibly back to work tomorrow. I guess one of my BIG questions, is what is the worst that will happen if I drive it. If you say ABSOLUTLY NOT (have it towed), I guess I have no choice, or do I have the ability to drive it to Fields or Knauz tomorrow? I would prefer to take it to knauz but Fields is a bit closer. I stopped by Fields tonight and they told me that it would be an hour a $98 to read the fault code (!) Obvilously I'm going to try to have someone else read it for me if at all possible. Does anyone know if at all possible if Knauz rents cars? Is it dangerous to drive my car? (I'm just pressed because I have a few pressing meetings that I ahve to attend tomorrw) My drive one-way to work is 35miles, do you think I can make it to the weekend? re
