(update) Turned out that I had 2 broken wires to the upper brake fixture. The green power wire was too short so I extended it. The brown ground wire had been cut -- how I don't know. Good thing the rear seats fold down... - Scott, 96' 2D M3. ==================================================== #3. Re: [E36M3] Upper Brake Light Doesn't... - from Alain van der Heide Top Date: Sun, 29 Feb 2004 21:58:16 -0600 From: "Alain van der Heide" <ajvdh1@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Upper Brake Light Doesn't... Is your "third" brake light mounted at the base of the rear window, or do you have a factory trunk wing? If it's the latter, I'd check out the wiring harness for the trunk, especially since you're also having a problem with your trunk light whose switch is on that wiring harness. The harness is on the left side of the trunk, and you'll notice that it kinks pretty badly every time you close the trunk. Eventually, the insulation on the individual wires inside can crack, or the wires themselves can break. It's a known trouble spot for E36s. I was able to get at the wires by popping the grommet where the harness goes into the trunk lid out of its hole, and pulling it and the harness cover down towards the fender. I just had some cracked insulation, which I fixed with electrical tape. Then I slid the harness cover and grommet back up into place. That was about 18 months ago, and no issues since. - Alain ----- Original Message ----- From: "scott noltensmeier" <snoltens@yahoo.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Saturday, February 28, 2004 11:24 PM Subject: [E36M3] Upper Brake Light Doesn't... > Date: Sat, 28 Feb 2004 21:13:12 -0800 (PST) > From: scott noltensmeier <snoltens@yahoo.com> > Subject: Upper Brake Light Doesn't... > > The upper brake light on my 96' M3 doesn't light anymore. > -- the light bulb is OK. > -- the other brake lights are OK. > > How do I trouble shoot this problem -or- is it easier to rewire it from one of the other functioning brake lights. > > BTW: The internal trunk light has the same problem. Date: Fri, 19 Mar 2004 12:18:36 -0700 From: Carl Stern <Carl.Stern@xilinx.com> Subject: Re: problems after installing 24# injectors I'm suffering a similar misfire on my new Conforti intake, Euro HFM and chip setup. Though mine is probably in a 5-10 second interval, no audible click, just a slight stumble. My idle speed seems to be slightly lower at around 600 rpm, I think it was more like 750 rpm before. Is this normal for this setup? It was installed by Bimmerhaus, they said the computer would learn. I've had it about 1 month/1000 miles now and am not seeing any change. I like the 4000rpm+ power gain but my stock setup was silky smooth at idle before. Car is OBD1 10/95, 30k miles. They changed plugs and all that too. I have stock injectors. Carl Stern

Please give me a couple of days to sort through and respond. I will be working through them in the order that they came in to my absolutely fantastic, beyond reproach, aol mailbox. The stock BMW transmission brace with 320i bushings is still available for anyone that wants to try and firm up their transmission mount using 320i bushings without sacrificing your current tranny mount. 50$ paypal. I found with a stock suspension I managed to get through your schedule. On the 6th day I blistered the outside front (oval NHIS). I didn't like the noise - they a very loud. People may be looking for the 4x4. I've switched to Kumho and have been happier with the grip but they don't last more than 6-8 days. -Steve -----Original Message----- From: Walter Jordan [mailto:walter@walterj.com] Sent: Saturday, March 20, 2004 12:11 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] 245/40ZR17 Yokohama A032R; how many days? #7. vanos/cam tools - from jww95_list@verizon.net

Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 17:49:11 -0600 From: <jww95_list@verizon.net> Subject: vanos/cam tools I'm posting this for a friend who is in the process of replacing the head gasket on his '95 m3 after having the head milled a few thousandths... The problem is that Koala is the only source we are aware of that rents the special tools needed to reassemble the head/cams/vanos on the car, and they have a 4+ week waiting list. So do any of you guys know an alternative source to rent these bmw tools? He's looking for the cam blocks, flywheel tdc locking pin, the primary tensioner tool, and the exhaust cam spanner wrench to clock adjuster for the vanos install. If anyone has any info, if you might happen to have the tools available for rent for a fee and deposit, please let me know. Thanks, Jeremy- 95m3

#8. Replacement Injection Coil - from Robert Exconde (M3)

Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 18:12:46 -0600 From: "Robert Exconde (M3)" <99e36m3@exconde.com> Subject: Replacement Injection Coil Thanks again for all the responses, I have determined with the help of some friends and Perillo BMW that the problem that I ran into this week was the ignition coil on my #5 was dead, therefore a misfire. I went to perillo yesterday and picked up a new one. However the part number that they looked up at store and what was in my car was totally different. The service advisor told me that he called the BMW help line and they didnt have an answer for me regarding the switch of brands and ability to get the older coil. So monday they are calling germany to find out if I can get the old coil again and to find more information on the changeover. Few questions for you guys: -Can I mix and match coils? the old ones are bosch, the new ones are bremi. I only need one. -Does anyone know where, If possible to get the old bosch ones? -If I do have to replace all of the coils, are there such things as high-performance coils? -what are recommended ones, do i need software to take advantage, what are the advantages? Robert

But that wasn't from my top-line source, so I'll try to check with my mechanic tomorrow. >-Does anyone know where, If possible to get the old bosch ones? Try Bimmerparts.com.
