#1. E36 Suspension Swap? - from Tom Tice
Top
Date: Thu, 1 Apr 2004 21:02:17 -0500 From: "Tom Tice" <tetice@triad.rr.com> Subject: E36 Suspension Swap? A question for the group? I've got an '98 E36 convertible with shocks/struts that have seen better days. I've also got complete '98 E36M3 suspension with very few miles on it in my attic. So obviously, I see a much better handling convertible in my future. I have complete front struts/springs and rear shocks/springs and both sway bars. Obviously the front sway bars mount differently but I should be okay with the complete M3 set. Has anyone attempted a swap like this and if so are there any show stoppers or different/additional parts the I would need to make this work? I am planning to try it this weekend so quick feedback would be appreciated. TIA, Tom Tice '98 M3/4 '99 540/6 '02 325iT '98 328iC

Point the car going straight in 2nd gear and accelerate. Upon letting go of the accelerator the car would point to the direction opposite to where you have the 7.5 inch wheel and it would be noticeable. Almost like having your RTAB shot. I don't think its safe to have the 7.5 for anytime more than it takes to get your 8.5 wheel/tire fixed. Ahmad

I know this fix does work if all connections are properly resoldered. Mine has worked perfectly for over a month now. Kevin Jay posted earlier today that the fix did not work for him. In some cases, you may need to replace the blue capacitor-this might have been what Kevin needed to do in the end. Or, it is possible he might not have resoldered the capacitors connection. Pardon me if I am wrong on this Kevin, but your e-mail said you just resoldered the main wiring harness connection. If you attempt this, let us know the outcome. They have an auction on e-bay. They replaced my cap and also performed a program reflash on the unit. I tried the cap resolder myself first, and I did more damage then good. Guess it depends on how good your soldering skills are, and if you can stand to be without HVAC for a few days if you send the unit out for repair. Date: Fri, 2 Apr 2004 14:52:59 -0500 From: "Newman, Christopher" <CNewman@LSAC.org> Subject: RE: [E36M3] 97 Digital Climate Control Mark, There's a re-soldering procedure you can attempt, but it apparently has mixed results. There's another thing you might try, but please try at your own risk, as I'm not sure if it's dangerous (perhaps someone else on the list knows ?). With the digital climate control unit installed, and the OBC removed, reach up behind the digital climate control unit and you should feel its wire connections. If you fiddle with the wires just right, the climate control may return to its proper function. Perhaps the connection changes with the weather (expands in hot weather; contracts in cold weather) or if you hit bumps in the road. I've heard of some people who got pretty quick at removing their OBC and could reach up and fiddle with the wires while at a stop light. Hope this helps some. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Apr 2004 14:10:56 -0500 (EST) From: "Mark Greer" <mark.greer@excite.com> Subject: 97 Digital Climate Control I'm having the classic power cycling issue with my climate control display. #8. broke my gas flap locker... - from Larry T

Date: Fri, 02 Apr 2004 17:21:01 -0500 From: "Larry T" <ltrainsvt@hotmail.com> Subject: broke my gas flap locker... Ok, well I was running my power/ground wires for my stereo to the battery, and while pulling off the trunk liner on the right hand side, I didn't know about the emergency gas tank lock release and pulled that sucker pretty hard. So the cord stretched out, I guess, and now the gas tank flap doesn't lock. Is there anyway to fix this, or do I have to buy a new actuator for that? Thanks guys.
