I will not buy a Kumho tire for a very long time. Nuff said. If some of you would like to be test subjects at 100+MPH at the track with the crap they are producing right now more power to yah! You either don't care about your wallet, or your life........... If any of you would like to vent, I'd be more than happy to provide Rudy's EMail address :-) Steve AS303 245/40 Hoosiers-Solo II RA1 Toyos-Track & Instructing Tire -----Original Message----- From: Steve Hazard Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 2:08 PM To: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: FW: Fontana event/schools review Appreciate the quick answer Rudy, and Happy New Year! I see at this time that for E36M3's (1995-99) the new tire sizes aren't available yet. Specifically 225/45/17's,235/40/17's & most importantly the 245/40/17 size. 1st, when will these sizes become available? 2nd, your #1 Autocross tire competitor is Hoosier which I currently run on my 98M3. Why? Because they offer a 245/40/17 tire and Kumho does not. Also Your tire sizes are not matching up to all the M3 drivers who wish to run just one set of tires for both activities. Your VictoRacers are only good in the 225/45 size but are very heavy, but still a great tire. The 245/45's are not an option for several other reasons. Your company is losing tons of $'s each year because you do not offer this sought after size. This is the most popular size for track and Autocross on the E36M3 platform. 255/40's and 245/45's require serious body and suspension work for fitment. Also they adversely effect gearing on our cars. This is an important time for you to look at this size. Other competitors are jumping back into the market as I'm sure you know. Goodyear: Already has a dedicated track tire that looks like it lasts longer than a Hoosier and sticks as well Yoko: Is coming out with a couple of new R compounds shortly And Michelin: Now has the Pilot Cups for track work in the 235/40 size Also your PR right now is not at its highest level in the BMW community. Your ECSTA 700 tires have been a major problem at the track with some people getting only one, or two track days out of them before the Groove of Doom sets in on the first tread in from the shoulder block. I have seen at least 5 sets of trashed 235/40's. These are not isolated cases BTW. The Email boards have multiple complaints on this tires premature life when used by a higher skilled track driver. I only bring this up to your attention in hopes it might effect future decisions regarding tire sizes and how we use the tires. The BMW Club is the most active single manufacturer club in the US. I find it interesting that the most tracked BMW cars are the M models and in many cases the tire manufacturers are missing key sizes and marketing knowledge regarding the club. You should look at all 3 M model(E30,E36,E46) rim and tire sizes in the future. There is LOTS OF REVENUE on the table. Instead they screwed me and many others out of a lots of money. For the amount of time they lasted Hoosier are cheaper! I have also noted that whatever rubber compound they are using on the V700 Victoracers (which I dearly loved) seems to have gone downhill and now blisters with ease even on lightweight cars. They sure screwed me so I am glad others will get free replacement tires... You should fight for the cash back though since their other tires blow and they have treated loyal customer abysmally now for 2+ years. Still, sensitivity to that issue varies from car to car. Someone somewhere has to be worst case, and maybe it's you? Another option is that you forgot to turn off ASC+T. Neil 96 M3

You get the max rpm expressed in steps of some hex value, and the operating time at which the over-rev was recorded. Note that this time is NOT the duration of the over-rev incident, but the time at which it occurred counted as running hours from when the ECU recorded the car being put in service. By comparing that with the current hours reading you can tell whether the over-rev was recent or not. I don't recall whether the ECU records multiple over-revs as separate records, or if so how many. (This is based on my very likely less than totally accurate recollection of a JimC post from several years ago. The details may be a bit off but I think the essence of it is right.) BTW, I'd recommend anyone who hasn't had the chance to try and witness a dealer's full diagnostic test, especially of an OBD-II car. You'll be amazed. Neil 96 M3

I filled out the Tech Support request form on the Kumho web site. 20 minutes later the phone rang - it was a Kumho Support Engineer wanting to talk about my question. Tried emailing and calling Rudy to get some help (at that time Kumho was a BMW CCA Club Racing sponsor) to no avail. I gave up on Kumhos for almost 2 years, but went back to the Victoracers for various reasons. Hopefully I'll be re-employed soon and I'll have a Hoosier-tire budget :-); otherwise I'll stick with the Victoracers for the time being. Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5

My only experience with them were when I ordered at set of Vicoracers on BBS RK wheels from TireRack a few years back but couldn't use them because the fronts wouldn't clear my big brakes with 20mm spacers. I was lucky enough to sell them for a few bucks less than what I paid for them. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Bassett" <jim@jimbassett.com> > > Yep, BTDT when the Ecsta V700 came out. When I run the Hoosiers, I have less space on my tire trailer even though the Kumhos have a 255 vs 245 section width. I'm pretty sure a 245 Hoosier puts more tire to the road than a 255 Kumho. I have both in my garage, I'll try to remeber to measure the tread width tonight. #10. E36 M3 Headlights for sale - from Go, Jeffrey

Date: Tue, 6 Apr 2004 22:12:25 +0200 From: "Go, Jeffrey" <jeffrey.go@sap.com> Subject: E36 M3 Headlights for sale Hi Gruppe just upgraded my headlights to the Ellipsoid lights. Still have mixed feelings.. intensity of lights and discharge is not what I expected..seems the old lights were stronger..however, the ellipsoids seem to give out better patterns and the lights are somewhat mellower, for lack of a better word. Construction-wise, the ellipsoids are much sturdier, no question. The nice feature I like is the parking light feature where you have some kind of a daytime driving light feature.. time will tell.. any ways, I am selling my old lights now. They are slightly pitted, but still in good working condition. Please let me know if you are interested. You can pick up ( Palo Alto) or ship from 94304. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2472432738
