Heck, I don't even really read it anymore as it's full of people bitching about their dealers and other ramblings. I had two big boxes full of Roundels that I just chucked recently. But if I knew there be gold in them there boxes, I would have hocked them for $4 a pop ;) Chester --- chrisosborne1@adelphia.net wrote: > Roundels Most issues back to October 1988. $5.00 each plus shipping. #3. Coilover Conundrum - from Jonathan Sargent
Top
Date: Fri, 9 Apr 2004 10:30:17 -0400 From: Jonathan Sargent <jonathan@rgbtvinc.com> Subject: Coilover Conundrum Hello to the board from a Noob! A very quick history: I have a 95 M3 that is a combo weekly driver/track thrasher. I'm to the point of a TCKline rollbar, 5 point harness, Fikse FM5's with Toyo RA 1's, and some engine tweaks here and there that should put me close to 300 hp. Now to the good stuff. I'm on stock suspension at 58K miles and I'm looking for your expertise. I've pretty much decided on coilovers with camber plates. However, I'm looking for real world experience. I'm educating myself about different setups as we speak and have been leaning toward the Ground Control externally adjustable Track/School kit with Koni's and likely 450/600 spring rates. I want to be able to adjust ride height and camber at the track, and then change it back to a streetable setup and drive it home, if possible, hence externally adjustable fronts and rears... Now, I have friends talking about the H&R Coilover setup as well as the "new" FK Variant 2 and 3 setups. My mind is mush and I need some help and advice. Thanks for helping a noob to the board. It's great reading and very informative. Jonathan

Bottom line is, the radio sucks, <snip> I have no relationship with a dealer even though I have a _BMW race car_ and street car." Sounds like an excellent opportunity to obtain a DEALER sponsorship!!! KLB

#5. Replacing Airbag Controller - 2nd request please! - from Dave Kelley
Top
Date: Fri, 09 Apr 2004 10:56:28 -0400 From: "Dave Kelley" <d.kelley@usa.net> Subject: Replacing Airbag Controller - 2nd request please! I'm moving and already packed my Bentley manual... if the instructions were even in there! But I got SRS error codes 1 & 17 on my 94 325i, which should be the Airbag Controller. The airbag light stays on and there are no error codes for the seatbelt tensioner. I think this should be the same procedure as for an E36 M3. On the assumption that the problem really is the airbag controller, I found a used, but supposedly working controller. Can anyone give me instructions or point me to a link for instructions on replacing this? I seem to recall seeing somewhere that they said it might have to be replaced by the dealer and not a DIY job. Or do I just disconnect the battery and replace the controller? Any experienced guidance is appreciated. Thanks, Dave Kelley 98 M3/4 94 325i

Streetability will definately be compromised. With that in mind, here's what I'd do... I started with the koni coilover kit, but I quickly found the front end was undersprung. I have a set of the TC Kline 450lb front, 500lb rear springs ready to go in, hopefully today. With the externally adjustable rears, changing dampening is a breeze. However, I very much doubt you're going to want to change ride heights, as that'll affect your corner weights as well as your alignment. I suggest you set your ride height, get the car corner balanced, then leave it there. I have the GC hybrid camber/caster plates and I like them. Again, I'm not sure if you really want to change settings on them, but many people do and seem successful with them. The GC stuff is nice, as is the TC Kline stuff. You can dictate your spring rates and spring heights and you end up with a much mroe tailored application rather than an off the shelf type of coilover like the H&R's. Spend some time on the phone with Pete at TC Kline and Dale at Ground Control, I'm sure they can help you out. -josh --- Jonathan Sargent <jonathan@rgbtvinc.com> wrote: > Date: Fri, 9 Apr 2004 10:30:17 -0400 > From: Jonathan Sargent <jonathan@rgbtvinc.com> > Subject: Coilover Conundrum > > Hello to the board from a Noob! The cover of Automobile has a pic of the new M2, a 3200lb 300HP 4 seater coupe with no stupid electronic gizmos (active steering, active suspension, active dashboard...) that looks surprisingly familiar... I am so smitten that I'm thinking about ordering one and slapping a cage in the ol' 98 ;) Well, only if the Federal Elise doesn't hit the used car market before 2006 that is... -- Walter Jordan
