I have contour wheels on my 99M3 and am thinking about getting a second set for her car. Will the standard 17" M3 contour wheels fit the 2001 330i sedan? Thanks, Al 99 silver M3

Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2004 12:38:41 -0700 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> Subject: pilot sport 2! Been riding on NEW PS2s, 225s/245s, for about a week and a half now and the new design is great! I am currently running them about 4-to-6 psi lower than my old PS. Their straight line tracking does not seem quite as precise (though that could be as result of my new alignment) but any transient maneuver is right there! In sharper/slower corners they don't seem to push as long or as harshly as the old design PS and the slide/push is smooth and transitions to hook-up quickly, resulting in a tighter line! Kim Burgess

Remember that the base 325 e46 with sport package includes 17's. Only difference is lowering. You might want to check running n 8.5 on the rear. I put my 7.5 on and there was plenty of clearance. I lifted the car on the floor jack to the see if it came close to rubbing on the other side and it wasn't even close. Why not just swap one of your 8.5 on the rear and try it. I've seen them put the new e46M3 mega meat wheel on the regular 3 series car with just a little rolling of the rear fenders. -----Original Message----- From: Allen Hyman [mailto:allen.hyman@starcore-dsp.com] Sent: Thursday, April 22, 2004 3:27 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] 99'M3 Contour wheels on 330i Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2004 14:23:51 -0500 From: "Allen Hyman" <allen.hyman@starcore-dsp.com> Subject: 99'M3 Contour wheels on 330i I'm looking to get a set of rims that are easier to clean than the wheels on my wife's 2001 330i. #7. Rust in the battery compartment - from John Hovell
Top
Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2004 13:26:21 -0700 (PDT) From: John Hovell <jhovell@stanford.edu> Subject: Rust in the battery compartment Folks -- I pulled out my battery today to trickle charge it, as I had drained it by leaving a light on. I was absolutely shocked to see brown, sludgy rust all over the bottom of the compartment that holds the battery in the trunk. The battery was replaced less than a year ago with an OEM unit by a shop who was working on my car -- they also managed to drain the battery and left the car unattended for several weeks after which time the battery would not hold a charge. I have heard these new batteries were sealed, but in this case there was no vent tube installed. The battery just has a rubber plug over what I think might be the vent tube hole, which is at the negative terminal end of the battery, not on the positive side like they used to be. The part number of the battery is 61-21-8-381-724. Anyone know if this is the proper part? I'm curious why the vent tube is at the other end. Is this the shop's fault? Am I over-reacting? What could have caused this to happen? I am all but positive this area was pristine as of 1 year ago, except for some white powder which I've been pretty good at cleaning out on a somewhat regular basis. TiA for any help/suggestions here.... Best, John

Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2004 16:38:20 -0400 From: "Jeremy Conners" <jeremy.conners@comcast.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Floating Rotor Question Actually, they are centrifugal air pumps. To paraphrase my fluid mechanics book: "...fluid enters axially through the eye...is caught up in the impeller blades, and is whirled tangentially and radially outward until it leaves through all circumferential parts of the impeller...The impeller blades are usually backward-curved...The blades may be open...or closed, i.e., shrouded from the casing on both sides by an impeller wall..." From: White, Frank M., Fluid Mechanics (3rd ed.), pg 645-6, 1994. The typical example of a centrifugal pump is the intake side of a turbo ('open' impeller); however, the principles are the same for vented brake rotors ('closed' impeller). Jeremy 97 M3 PS (for Neil): I won't get into the 'petal'/'fugal' topic... <BFG> -----Original Message----- From: Paul Smith [mailto:Paul.Smith@ontariosystems.com] <SNIP> I would think that the rotor would 'scoop up air' from the outside. Do these rotors get fresh/cool air in the center of the rotor and send it out to the exterior? <SNIP>
