Everything works but I don't have any instructions on how to access the 6 disk changer mounted in my trunk, which this radio is suppose to be able to do. My old radio/cassette has a "mode" button to toggle between AM/FM/CD. Anyone care to provide me the instructions on how to do that? Also, any pointers to a online manual in pdf would be great (what does RDS and PTY mean?). Thanks much. Bob, I am currently testing the Hankook Ventus Z211 245/40/17 R compounds on BBS RC 8 inch wheels with a 38 offset. The rears tires necessitated that the rear fender lips be rolled. Limited testing has produced good results as far as stick, feel, and longevity are concerned. Compared to the Toyo RA1's, the Z211 had no initial gassing-off greasiness at full tread depth and slightly better stick. Last weekend the edges began to chunk a little at Mid-Ohio but I think that it was mostly the new cheese grater concrete treatment. I will keep reporting as the tire goes through it life cycle. My rear fender wells are rolled for my 255/40/17 street tires. I personnally won't go that way again as I could feel the gearing change. I currently run 235/40/17 rubber but that's a compromise too. Some one should make a 245/40/17 r-compound tire that doesn't cost $200+ ;-( Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA BSP Champion '01 & '02 SM '03 ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm *************************************************

Hi, I just upgraded my cassette in my '97 to a Kenwood with Sirius. I have the HK system in my car. All I can say is that the stock speakers and amp never sounded so good. The head unit installed in about 30 minutes. The Sirius tuner took longer because I had wires to route. In all about 2.5 hours from stock to kenwood with Sirius. My cassette deck had the FM crackle problem and the display only worked when it felt like it. Also, any pointers to a online > manual in pdf would be great (what does RDS and PTY mean?). After pressing the CD button, you select between any of the 6 CDs in the changer cartridge with the correspondingly numbered button on the head unit. However as I recall, at some point during the E36 model run, BMW changed from one CD changer control bus to another. (I'm sure that someone better versed in stereo stuff will be able to expand on this.) The CD43 certainly uses the later system, and I have no idea whether your 95 M3 does also. If not, it ain't going to work. Neil 96 M3 - CD43

#8. Brake Pad Wear Indicator - from Newman, Christopher
Top
Date: Wed, 2 Jun 2004 13:19:17 -0400 From: "Newman, Christopher" <CNewman@LSAC.org> Subject: Brake Pad Wear Indicator Hello, On Monday, the brake pad wear indicator light appeared in the gauge cluster. It's the red circle with 3 dashes around the left of it and 3 around the right of it. I had the car inspected a month ago, and was advised the brakes passed inspection, they were at 4/32, and had about 4,000 miles left in them. I realize the 4,000 figure was just an estimate, but the car hasn't traveled anywhere close to that many miles. The car has been driven in its normal fashion. Braking performance has not changed/diminished. Is it just a precautionary measure by BMW for the light to come on well in advance of needing actual brake replacement ? Has anyone out there traveled for a fairly long distance with the light lit ? If so, how many miles did you travel ? More important, is it safe ? As mentioned, the brakes perform great. I would imagine braking performance would decrease and/or the brakes would make noise if you had really taken them too far. Thanks for any comments.

I would be interested in buying it if you do. Please advise. Also, if anyone went to a different method of adding some insurance to their lubrication system (baffled oil pans, Accusump, etc.), I would be interested in hearing or learning more about it. This is intended for a combined purpose street/track car. Thanks in advance. Regards, Rich Dorffer

Not sure why you are intent on running the pad to the absolute lowest point as new OE pads are about $60 from the dealer. In fact, the sensor that is now tripped and will have to be replaced is not that cheap...IIRC, more than $10. Another observation I have is that low pad material actually results in increased pedal displacement. I recently swapped out my original pads with 80k miles on them for new ones. The original pads have been through a few track sessions and lately it seemed that the brakes just didn't grab....the car would slow down, but the front end wouldn't bite down. Swapped the pads to new OE Jurids and the response has definitely improved...
