I'd be happy to throw a couple in the mail to you. Radio Shack doesn't carry useful things anymore since they decided that selling phones and Direct TV is more important (profitable?) than supplying their local amateur radio operator (which is where the name Radio Shack come from, BTW), but don't let me get on a rant. The only place you are going to find these 'filter caps' is somewhere that caters to the electronics hobbyist. Besides the local Fry's Electronics you can try online stores like JDR Microdevices www.jdr.com and Jameco electronics www.jameco.com. One more thing. You probably can't buy a single cap from anyone. Even Fry's sells these in pack of ten or twenty, but it's still much less than the cost of having it repaired. But, I also understand we live in an 'instant gratification' society and if we can pay someone else to do stuff quicker and with less hassle, that is the route we as Americans take. Which is exactly why the guy who cuts my lawn doesn't speak a lick of English, but again, I digress into unsafe topics. Mel Silva Houston, TX (it's hot enough here, I don't need any flames!) Just my 2cents... by the time you find everything, you can send it away for repair and have it back and installed, plus it will have the updated programming performed if it doesn't have it already. I did the thermostat and the fan switch at the same time, since it was all part of the kit (bimmerparts). The engine does seem to rev better, but I didn't dyno the car. It's been done for almost 2 years now, and autocrossed in temperatures as high as 108 (Fontana, CA). I haven't noticed any downside. If the electric fan went out, there probably would be an issue though. Colin asked: "If so, did you 1) change the thermostat to 80C and/or 2) switch to a 80/88C fan switch?" "I'm thinking of pulling it and swapping in the fan switch only." I'm also headed in that direction and will just pull the fan, add the trick nut, switch to all alloy radiator, and a 80/88c aux fan switch. 92c ~ 197.6F 88C ~ 190.4F 80C ~ 176F For what it's worth, BMW switched to 92C for improved emissions in 96(?) I believe the 95's came with 88C stats. With an 80C T-stat I would anticipate a 'feeling' of additional power as the charge going in would not pick-up as much heat from the head, but I also believe your mileage and emissions will degrade significantly. The only major problem I've had is the radiator neck breaking (while in the mountains at deals gap!). Besides that, a few minor problems: - replaced the door striker w/ built in switch (the switch had worn down and would cycle the window and the interior lights) - bad coolant level sensor - leaky valve cover gasket - leaky PCV valve That's all I can think of right now. It's amazing, but all the following are still original: clutch wheel bearings suspension bushings (yes, even the trailing arms) The car has seen: ~7 track days 6 autocrosses 2 days at the drag strip Bob ===== ------------------------------------------------------------ Robert Liu bob_a_liu@yahoo.com www.p1auto.com Miata info: http://www.cardomain.com/id/p1auto __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Date: Thu, 3 Jun 2004 10:32:31 -0700 From: "Philip" <estorilphil@highstream.net> Subject: Seat belt not retracting What's involved in fixing the seat belt not retracting well/properly? It does retract still, but the spring or whatever that cause the retraction to happen must be broken or have gotten very weak. Because it's now barely retracting and is quite annoying... Anyone had this fixed at a mechanic/dealer? If so how much should I be expected to pay? I live in So-Cal (Newport Beach). Btw, if anyone is (or know someone who is) renting a (medium sized) dog friendly condo/townhome/single-family-home (w/ yard) in the south bay, north oc area, I'm interested. Sorry for the non-M3 comment. Thanks... :-) 99 Estoril M3/2 96 Suburban 03 pointer mix doggie

The unit was the DTM style and it added a distinct look to the car. The up side to this exhaust is the quality of build. It is a German built unit and I understand a pretty common one overseas for BMW modifications. And at least in the St. Louis area it is rare. The down side is that it can be hard to find. I've seen it at one of the big mail order houses BMP, Bavarian... I'm sorry but I don't remember where. Email me if you decide to pursue this brand and I will find the source for you. They offer various tip and I recall the straight versions are more readily available. If memory serves me correct the DTM style take about eight weeks to get imported. >Date: Wed, 2 Jun 2004 18:48:15 -0400 >From: "bs" <m3bs@comcast.net> >Subject: Re: [E36M3] Exhaust Problem > >I like the sound of the Borla on my M3. I am not surprised the car has 200k miles-but I am shocked the original clutch is still in there at that mileage! When I bought mine last fall with 89k miles the first thing I did was have the clutch replaced-the throwout bearing was noisy and the clutch disc was about gone. What type of extra maintenance or repairs have you had to do during that mileage?
