Got 'em off ebay for around $400 IIRC, install was a breeze. I put the rubber film over the glass to protect it. Difference to stock is night and day! No-one makes a tire in that size. The closest available size is 245/30-20. This is not going to squeeze under a stock (even rolled) M3 fender. Break out the plasma cutter and you're in easy street. 225/30-20 *might* fit and there is at least 1 tire available that size @ $332 a corner - ouch! 205/30-20 will fit if anyone made a tire that size - they don't. It's your car, if you want phatten it up with those 20's, go for it. #8. 3 spoke airbag wheel installed! - from DocWyte
Top
Date: Thu, 24 Jun 2004 14:46:17 -0700 (PDT) From: DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> Subject: 3 spoke airbag wheel installed! Ok, I scored an awesome deal on a 3 spoke airbag steering wheel from Zionsville Auto. It showed up today and I just couldn't wait to install it. I had the directions from: //home.earthlink.net/~frankie66/cars-bmw_diy_steeringwheel.html Gotta say they weren't all that hot. They give a good overview, but leave a few things out, like details... This ONLY applies to my '95 M3, although I suspect it's the same for all e36 M3's that have the 4 spoke steering wheel. IE, I don't wanna hear that I f'ed up your car because you followed this! You shoulda had a '95 M3! :D First off, this is a beginner level job. If you can change your oil, you can do this. It'll take you a bit over an hour, not the 8-12 hours listed. Not sure what that guy was smoking, I did mine in 40 minutes... I'll just add notes to the DIY... Step 2: To remove the steering column covers, you need to remove the phillips head screws. Yes, they're there, look towards the back of the cover. Pull out the little plastic grommet that the screw goes into on the bottom cover. It likes to fall out and if you lose it, you're screwed, as they don't show up on the TIS. Step 5: The horn connector comes off by pushing it out from the back towards you. Step 11: The column switches come off by depressing tabs on the top and bottom of the switch. The top one is readily apparent, the bottom one isn't, it's a little buried in there and you'll have to use a small flathead screwdriver to depress it. If you have cruise control, there's a small tab on the bottom of it, then it slides out towards the passenger side of the car. Remove it first, then remove the washer/wiper stalk. The column support bracket comes out by depressing the tabs on the top of it and sliding it down towards the floor of the car. Step 12: I have no idea why this is necessary. My new bracket already had the slip ring pin in it, albeit on the other side. I just checked the operation of the wheel and it seems to work just fine.... Step 13: I found it much easier to get the upper steering column cover on before I mounted the wheel. The wheel feels awesome and doesn't block my view of the tach from 4-6000 rpm like my Momo wheel did. I also feel a little better with an airbag back in the car as I recently had two accidents happen literally right in front of me and I had to render care both times... -josh ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? #9. Speaking of '99 3 spoke airbag steering wheels... - from Roy Kao

Date: Thu, 24 Jun 2004 18:07:31 -0400 From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: Speaking of '99 3 spoke airbag steering wheels... Since we're on the topic of steering wheels, I've always wondered if there's a way to swap the wheel from my '99 M3 with the E39 540i Sport Package steering wheel. It's basically the same 3-spoke design but has a much more heavily padded rim that feels great in the hands. My folks have a '00 540i Touring Sport and it has this wheel and I love it! If someone tells me that it'll work on the M3 no problem, I'll have to start looking for it! I like my 17s, but I think 18s are aesthetically pleasing... Whether I like it or not isn't the question, I suppose. Either way, I don't think 20" wheels would fit, as 19s look like troublesome.
