Trying to find the issue of Roundel with the fix for the '99 M3 trannies (I think it was mostly '99s that were effected), where 5th gear doesn't quite feel like it's where it should be while when cold. I think it was just a return spring (??) that wasn't lubed properly at the factory. I don't think I still have that issue, so I'm trying to see if some local friends do, but I don't even remember the cover date. Does anyone have that cover date, or possibly a PDF of the article in question? Thanks, Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________ Don’t just search. Find. #3. 2006 3-Series (E90) Sales brochure - from Robert Puertas

Form the pictures, the "Bangle Butt" is toned down, but the styling still appears way too busy for my taste. Graeme Does it say anything about an optional limited slip differential? If not, I'm not interested.

I find Eibachs good for the street but a tad soft for the track. Contact me privately. Thanks, A.L.

Date: Mon, 9 Aug 2004 14:09:14 -0700 From: Bob Vaughn <Bob_Vaughn@Telestream.net> Subject: Repair Tips Hit a deer on Friday and smashed in the front left corner. Mostly the hood, but it dented the quarter-panel a bit, took out the blinker, the light bucket, front cross-member, bumper trim, plus a few other odds and ends. Any advice before I go to get it fixed? I know I should ask for BMW parts and paint, but anything else? Insurer is AAA. -- thx, Bob '95 ///M3

#6. running an auto-x - from Robert Puertas

Date: Mon, 9 Aug 2004 14:25:00 -0700 From: "Robert Puertas" <Puertas@cox.net> Subject: running an auto-x Jay, Graeme's already given you some good ideas... And as he's said, starting earlier and shortening the interval between runs will give you the most bang for your buck. Here in southern California, we regularly get 250-300 entrants at our SCCA Solo2 events. We have 8 run groups, 2 grids, and switch workers on the fly. Or at least, that's the goal. Things you might try to speed things up: No course walk. Do a single parade lap before each run group. This might be faster on a road course site like you are using. Plus, you don't really need to break for a lunchtime course walk this way. The length of the course doesn't really effect the number of cars you can run during the day. The real factor here is the interval they are spaced at. Here in CalClub we probably average 20-25 seconds between cars at the start line when everything is running properly. 100 people and 4 groups = ~25 workers per group, and that sounds almost perfect, so I wouldn't change that. Does it work well for you, or do course workers have to cover too much ground? Do you get a lot of re-runs from downed cones? You definitely need to stagger the run/work groups so that people have a group in between to park their cars, visit the restrooms, grab a water, etc. This allows for worker change over on the fly, and you probably need to have them shuttled out to their work stations in the back of a truck. Things like annual tech inspections and on-line registration can streamline those processes a bit, but they are still our biggest bottle necks in the morning. We're planning to try having two sessions for tech & reg. 7:30-9:00am for the morning groups, and 10:30-noon for the afternoon groups.

#8. broken motor mount! - from Andy Radin
Top
Date: Mon, 9 Aug 2004 18:02:19 -0700 From: "Andy Radin" <fourfa@fourfa.com> Subject: broken motor mount! I got a shock today while getting an alignment... the passenger side motor mount bracket, connecting the rubber motor mount to the block, is broken completely in half. and missing a bolt to boot! Never heard any noise or had any problems, though the oil pan has a mark where it's bumped the steering rack. First, if anyone has the part # handy that would be great. Anyone ever seen this part fail before? I don't recall hearing of it. Second, what else should I replace while I'm under there with the engine hoisted? Both rubber mounts I assume, anything else? Third, the tech complained the inner steering tie rods are worn, would it be wise to replace the outer ones too? Car is a 98 coupe, 93,000 miles, one major accident (rear, not front). thanks, andy r.

Date: Tue, 10 Aug 2004 02:30:55 +0000 From: "John Phillips" <jlphil@hotmail.com> Subject: Road trip suggestions N. Georgia/W. N. Carolina? I'm going to this weekend's NASA HPDE at Road Atlanta, and have an extra day Monday to play around before towing home to Jupiter, Fl. Does anyone know any twisty, hilly backroads I can play on between Braselton GA anad Waynesville, N. Carolina? I have a place to stay Sunday night near Waynesville, and hope to do some ridge-running if I can. I'll stash the trailer and truck in GA after the last session Sunday, drive the M3 to/from Waynesville, then load up again in GA Monday night and head home. Any suggested routes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! John Phillips. '95 M3
