#1. PF97 vs 01 pads - from AVUSM3@aol.com

Date: Tue, 31 Aug 2004 14:17:41 EDT From: AVUSM3@aol.com Subject: PF97 vs 01 pads Jonathan - I glad to hear the PF01s are working well for you. I just put a set of PF01s on the front on my car as well. I'll be going to NHIS next week and will be able to provide additional feedback. It seems like there has been relatively little written about these pads on our cars. Their marketing material claims that the '01 is practically immune to pad transfer issues. We'll know about that soon enough. :) John > For those who are interested, I was finally able to try out the Performance Friction PF01 compound race pads last weekend at Thunderhill raceway, in beautiful Willows, CA. ;)

Similar to Nascar's Talladega, you go as fast as you can and try and avoid 'the big wreck'. Seriously, that tire casing cam off a truck two lanes away and was knocked into me by a car in front and to the left of me. I couldn't even see it until it was too late... And if you think I tailgate, you should ride with my wife. Don't worry about the 'custom grip' on the passenger door handle of her car. I made that on Sunday when she drove us to the park with our daughter 8*o . Back in the days when I lived in California, I had ridden with some wild drivers at Thunderhill, Sears Point (Infineon) and Laguna (Mazda Seca), but nothing scares the carp out of me more than a trip to the grocery store these days. #5. Tire carcus remnants (was underpanel) - from KLchmn@aol.com
Top
Date: Tue, 31 Aug 2004 14:58:41 -0400 From: KLchmn@aol.com Subject: Tire carcus remnants (was underpanel) I have to confess that I have left a couple of those carci (sp?) on the highway myself. My trailer shredded all of its high quality Akron, Ohio based tires in the first year I had it. Now that it has low quality import tires, everything is well and good. <sarcasm off> Only way I knew the tire was flat (gone in my case) was someone pointing it out to me. The trailer (dual axle) and truck (dually) were stable the entire time. I am certain that I would have noticed when the second tire on the same side went! Ouch. One time there was alot of smoke and I stopped before the tread tossed itself. One time there was a subtle, periodic vibration that indicated a flat. Very had to tell when the tires are waaaaay back there (I'm approx 53 ft nose to tail). However, I too have hit tire carci with my old 525i on the California autobahn (I-5) and elsewhere. Both were at night. Black on black. Never saw them... It happens. Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter

I had no issues with pad transfer with mine, but I also never had any problems with pad transfer from PF97s. Always had perfectly smooth braking, and that's the case with 01s on my car too. They performed well and didn't exhibit any fade or other negative performance tendancies, but they were just OK (in my opinion, of course). Where I can get a set of the PF pads to last *several* track weekends, I only got a couple out of the DS3000s. The second set I tried had also cracked, chunked and started crumbling apart on the front. They sounded great on paper, and my car may simply not have enough cooling for them, but I won't be using them again. #10. Was Suspension - Now NEW Alternate - from RFKoby@aol.com

Date: Tue, 31 Aug 2004 16:51:18 -0400 From: RFKoby@aol.com Subject: Was Suspension - Now NEW Alternate Hello Group, for those that do NOT compete / race, and only do driver schools and local AutoX's, take a look at this suspension. It is the best of all worlds, stock, sport, and race setups. It brings a new dimension to your multi-purpose daily driver that you use on weekends at the track. http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/suspension.jsp?make=Praxis&model=Adaptive+Perf+Susp+Sys Touring mode is very close to stock spring rates, with better shock dampening.... this yield a better, more controlled ride. Sport mode lowers the car, and identical to sport lower springs with progressive rates, and after market shocks. Track mode lowers the car even more, and increases the spring rates to that of race springs. Shocks are adjustable, and there are recommended settings for each Mode: touring, sport, and track. This system is awesome... and they are developing the system to fit E36 as well.... Several magazines have reviewed it, and the articles will soon be out in Roundel, EuroTuner, etc..... TireRack has its own test car on site with the system... saw it there when I was buying tires... bob
