#1. Kudos to James and BimmerWorld - from Mel Silva

Date: Thu, 30 Sep 2004 20:38:36 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: Kudos to James and BimmerWorld I also wanted to take the time to publicly say that James Clay and BimmerWorld are a top notch outfit and we are lucky to have them not only as sponsors, but as actual participants on the list. I sent a note to James earlier this week because I was having trouble with the BimmerWorld website. It was probably something I had done since I was trying to place an order from a development machine that I had built all sorts of stupid services in .NET and Java that were running in the background on. Anyway, I sent an email to James and after clicking send I went to lunch. When I came back, there were two notes in my inbox; One from James thanking me for my business and telling me that it was taken care of. (I assumed that he meant that the website had been fixed or something). The second email was an order confirmation and tracking number from BimmerWorld. I am still amazed that somebody took the time to actually look up my customer information and handle everything for me. I actually felt like a 'valued customer'. Honestly, how often can any of us say that these days. Thanks James and BimmerWorld for being part of 'our world'. Mel Silva '97 M3/4

I started with an aluminum nail (roofing nail) and used a small file to create a 5 sided tool of approximately the right size. You could use a regular steel nail but you'll be filing a lot longer. With the aluminum it only took maybe 10 minutes of trial and error filing. I have to hold the nail with a pair of pliers to turn it but it works. I did this to get by in a pinch but have used it 10 or so times since then and it works just fine. I don't relish the idea of paying $8 shipping for a $10 tool from those that actually carry these things. Does anyone know where I can find this locally or what the specifics of it are? I know I'm being lazy, but I've got a cold and don't feel much like hunting for this (which is normally something I enjoy) and I am relying on the list members to come through for me. #4. OBD II Scan tool - from Thomas E. Tice

Date: Thu, 30 Sep 2004 22:42:04 -0400 From: "Thomas E. Tice" <tetice@triad.rr.com> Subject: OBD II Scan tool If anyone is interested in an OBD II scan tool, check out the group buy over at the bimmerfest.com forum. If you are interested, I suppose you should sign up to this forum and let the group buy coordinator know. It's not much more expensive than a PEAKE scan tool and seems to have more functionality and is upgradeable. Link is below. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73505 This tool is made by Autoenginuity and looks pretty good. It uses an interface and software running either on a PC, Palm or pocketPC. It also comes with an interesting software tool that performs a dyno function calculating HP from acceleration. If anyone has any experience with Autoenginuity, I'd love to hear about it. Tom Tice '98 M3/4 '99 540/6 '98 328iC '02 325iC

On 1/1/04 a good clean, 70K mile '95 was probably about $15k, maybe $16k. High mileage '95 M3 was probably about $13k. Today, 10/1/04, I say the same good clean 70K '95 M3 is down to about $13k. And a high mileage, rougher '95 is only going to be $10-11k. Chester's friend's '95 M3 is 123K miles. I'd say $11k is a fair price, especially if the only tires it has are snow tires. You will have to spend $600-$1100 for tires right off the bat. The cars that amaze me are the E30 M3's. I think they are going up in value! Good clean 1990 M3's can probably fetch $17-18k. My roommate just bought a '95 M3 almost bone stock except for some M3 LTW parts (suspension, engine) with about 100K miles for $8K, very clean car, no accidents, etc. I sold my '91 M3 a few months earlier for more than that and with more miles. My car had a few suspension mods though. Carlos.
