More recently, I have been adding small microcontrollers to the car to add and improve things that BMW had not thought of, such as turning off the trunk light after 15 minutes, a shift up warning, one-touch turn signals like on the new 5er, and so on. I have these on my m3 and have been thinking about switching to a HID setup. This means i'll need projectors to go along with them. Anyway, i've never really seen the euro free form lights anywere else and most people have no idea what i'm talking about when i mention them. The question i have is do they have any value? Will I be able to sell them to help cover the cost of new headlights? I'm hopeing some people on here have atleast heard of them.

#4. Any way to clean race pad brake dust off wheels after wet track day? - from K Quistorff

Date: Sun, 3 Oct 2004 16:26:00 -0400 From: "K Quistorff" <kqkq@nc.rr.com> Subject: Any way to clean race pad brake dust off wheels after wet track day? Anyone out there know of a product that will remove baked-on brake dust from alloy wheels? I made the mistake of waiting until I got home after a wet track day to try to clean my wheels, and the brake dust seems to be bonded to my rear wheels. The front wheels (w/Carbotech Panther XP9 pads) cleaned up w/just wheel cleaner, but the rears (w/PF 93 pads) are being impossible. I've tried the following: Eagle 1 wheel cleaner, Purple Power, Simple Green, brake parts cleaner, carb cleaner, and even Easy Off oven spray. The Easy Off removed the dust where it was thin, but nothing I've tried seems to be doing anything in the caked areas. Any advice from those experienced w/this problem would be greatly appreciated. I haven't tried this yet, but it's on my to-do list, as my track wheels have been gunked up for a long time due to PF97 dust getting wet... This is a post made by Mo Karamat a while back: ****** Mo's Message ****** Date: Wed, 07 Jul 2004 23:26:19 -0400 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: An Answer to ALL caustic Brake Dust & other stuff! Dear All, With all of this talk about track brake dust, and how caustic it is, I have something that I would like to share with the group.. I use PF97's as my track pads and ruined a set of M contours last season at Summit point. So I started looking for a product to protect my rims. Someone on the list suggested that I try something called "Rejex". He had heard that it "may" work. I bought a new set of Kosei K1 rims, and coated them with the stuff, as well as the side of the car. My first event this season was at Limerock.. It rained like crazy.. well my friend Walter (also from the list) had rust spots on the side of his e36, and his rims, my car did not. (but did have that wonderful PF97 brake dust on it) We stopped at the car wash that is near Limerock, and washed off both cars. After the washing, Walts car still had rust spots on the side. The dust just washed off of my car, and rims like nothing was there.. I was so impressed that I became a dealer. Rejex is not only good for brake dust, but makes it a lot easier to clean off dead bugs, etc. The normal cost of Rejex is $19.95 + shipping for a 16oz bottle, but for the list, and CCA members, I am going to offer it for $16.00 + shipping. I will be at the Glen next week, so if anyone wants a bottle or some samples come and find me.. If anyone has any questions or comments, please let me know. Enjoy. Had been doing nothing unusual with the car. Had just driven about 100 mi. at normal highway speeds. All fluids are fine. I wiggled all underhood connections just in case something was loose. I had a '94 530 that had a "stomp test" feature to display fault codes. My Bentley manual says that some e36s will display fault codes if you turn the key to "radio" position & press the trip odo for a while. MIne doesn't do that. Is anyone aware of such a feature on this car or have any ideas why the check engine would come on with everything seeming normal. Thanks- Bob Thomas

That's out along with the carrier arm. I have a '95 that needs an updated selector rod joint, the trans end of the selector rod. Can't get the dowel pin out. Have already slid the clip covering the pin out of the way, but the pin hasn't yet budged. > -----Original Message----- > From: Tim Williams [mailto:willtj@bellsouth.net] > Sent: Sunday, October 03, 2004 7:06 PM > To: E36M3 > Subject: [E36M3] selector rod joint replacement > > > Date: Sun, 3 Oct 2004 18:59:22 -0400 > From: "Tim Williams" <willtj@bellsouth.net> > Subject: selector rod joint replacement > > If anyone has done this, can you send me a private email? Thanks- Bob Thomas The only way to read the codes on your car (OBD-II) is with a code reader, either a Peake tool you borrow from someone or head to a BMW mechanic. As to what is causing it, you're kidding, right? :-) There's easily nearly 100 things that could cause a CE, *especially* on an OBD-II car, almost all of them emissions related. You really need to get the code read, and then fix the problem (if there is one; sometimes the OBD-II system will detect momentary "hiccups" - misfire, etc - that happen only once. Just reset the CE light.) A very common problem is a loose gas cap - did you recently put gas in the car? Retightening the gas cap, and going through a few start cycles will usually eventually clear the CE light. Easiest and cheapest first step would be to find someone local who has a Peake tool (I'm in the SF Bay Area) and ask them to read the code for you. Next would be to head to your favorite local independent BMW mechanic (you do have one, don't you? :-)) and have them read the code. Since it takes a minute or two, many may read it for free (YMMV, of course). Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5

I've had the baked on PF97 and PF01 pad material on my factory forged wheels. The only thing that worked for me was Easy Off oven cleaner and patience. If you let it sit for a few minutes and then then a stiff brush and swish it back and forth lightly, you'll see chunks of it come off. Wash away (to get rid of the embedded dirt) and repeat.
