This air helps burn the rich mixture and light up the cats more quickly. Air is provided by an electric pump just ahead of the firewall on the passenger side. This pump draws in its air through a long plastic snorkel from the area behind the right headlight, and injects it through a check valve and into the secondary air injection manifold, a tubular stainless steel assembly which bolts to the exhaust manifold. The air injection pump is controlled by the ECU. It operates for a couple of minutes or less until the engine has some heat. If the pump isn't working correctly the oxygen sensors will detect the overly rich mixture and through a fault code and CEL. Sounds as if your pump has failed or is on the way out, or perhaps the pump's air intake or the check valve are blocked. Neil 96 M3

Could very well be. There's a vacuum connection to the air injection check valve, so that stuff is all interconnected. Neil 96 M3

#7. Elise email list ? (was Lee Piccone spotting) - from Newman, Christopher

(was Lee Piccone spotting) Since it's been mentioned, are there any email lists that discuss the Elise ? I found some internet message boards, but nothing in an email list format. I plan on keeping the M3 for a long time, but the Elise is interesting. Thanks for any leads. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2004 17:58:41 -0700 (PDT) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Lee Piccone spotting http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6545 So how was looking at the top of the windshield? :) Chester

Elisetalk has pretty much been it, though there is a Elise forum on roadfly.org. Unfortunately, there are only a few people there who know their stuff. The rest are of the "Lotus engineered it that way; therefore, it must be the best" mantra. Talking about putting R compounds on the non sport packaged car raises uninformed blurbs like, "the tires will overwhelm the chassis...that's why Lotus engineered the sport suspension." Ugh.
