Roy, I have a set of Evo 2s on the way for my sedan and plan to use stock belts as well. There are a number of people who have gotten the setup to work. From what I've seen, the easiest way to to use seat brackets from Speedware Motorsports, as they have a tab that is for attaching the stock seatbelt receptacle and pretensioner. This is probably all you'll have to do for your coupe. Unless you're really skinny, the side bolsters won't interfere with the lap portion of the belt. Another option is to use seatbelt receptacles from an E30, as they are much simpler than those from the E36. However, you'll probably end up getting a SRS light as I'm pretty sure the SRS system checks the seatbelt pretensioners (I might be wrong.) You will also have to rig up something for the passenger occupancy sensor if you want to keep your SRS light off. Jim Powell's webpage has details on how to do this - http://www.apexcone.com/JimPowellHomepage/Recaros/Recaros.html. Now things are a little more interesting for sedans because the seatbelt itself attaches to the stock seat. I have a set of TCKline brackets, which seem to have a tab designed for attaching the seatbelt receptacle. I'm going to see if I can flip them around and use the tab for the seatbelt itself instead. For the receptacle itself, I'll probably end up drilling into the steel side mounts so the receptacle moves with the seat (I also got a set of sliders.) True, that's what I have installed in my E36, E30 seatbelt buckle, Recaro SRD seat, tckline adapters with Recaro sliders. That works great but the problem I see with that is that on a race seat with that combo the seat belt would end up over the sides of the seat which are quite high compared to a sport seat (like the SRD). What I would do instead is use the center buckle from the rear seat which is on a piece of flexible material as opposed to the E30 buckle. That way you can route the buckle inside one of the lap belt holes (the inboard one) on your race seat and the seat belt would fit snuggly around your waist. Carlos.

It is currently priced at $312 with a lifetime warranty; OE rebuilds only have a 1 year warranty and cost twice as much. I measured the rack displacement at 1 turn, 2 turns, and full lock and the ratio is identical to my OE rack. For $312, I wouldn't take the time to rebuild it. Hi Roy, I use same seats (except w/ HMS rollbar and sparco 5pts) and I also have the stock 3pts for driving on the street. It can be done but you may find the 3pt shoulder belt rides annoyingly high/rubs on your neck. Though I also had the seat lowered using a VAC seat bracket so I could sit comfortably with a helmet on; maybe that's the cause :-) Bill '98 m3/2 WGI trackrat -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Mon, 25 Oct 2004 10:56:43 -0400 From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: Sparco Evo2 Seats w/ 3-point Belt? I'm getting ready to commit to a pair of Sparco Evo2 seats to have them installed over the winter but I have a question about using them with the stock 3-point belts: can it be done? I don't have a cage in the car yet and I am one of those firm believers that will not install 5- or 6-point harnesses unless I have at least a half cage in the back of the car. So, I want to use the seats with the 3-point seat belts for the time being. Does anyone have experience using this particular setup? Or using another motorsport seat with the 3-point belts? I plan to get the Evo2 seats with the floor mounting hardware and sliders. I think TC Kline sells the hardware specifically for the E36? Any help from the Digest would be appreciated. TIA... What do you think, replace the water pump while I am at it? Its probably metal, but how long do the metal ones go....I quess its just bearings after the impeller issue is out of the question. Anything else I should do to make the system more robust? Opinions welcome, Thanks, Patrick Goss

I have a 7/97 build (76k miles) with the metal impeller and I had noticable play in the bearings. My opinion - change it! Is your radiator original too? If so, it's probably only a short time before the plastic inlet or outlet pipes break. Again relatively cheap insurance. #10. Poll: Which Competition Seat for E36 M3 Coupe - from Roy Kao
Top
Date: Tue, 26 Oct 2004 12:05:06 -0400 From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: Poll: Which Competition Seat for E36 M3 Coupe I've asked previously about the use of a Sparco Evo2 (Evo L) seat in my E36 M3 in combination with the 3-point seatbelt. TC Kline sells the Recaro seats while others also sell OMP and Sparco seats. What do the digesters use in their car? I'm trying not to go the whole route with the cage right now as I don't have time to dedicate to track activities more but feel that a pair of seats will help me enjoy the events I do attend by giving me better car control without needing to brace myself with my legs. I'm interested in your opinions on this issue as I'm figuring out what to do with my car over the winter in preparation for next season. TIA.
