Get some Schroth 4pt belts. I've been using mine for a few years and they hold me very well in my stock Vader seats while running R compounds. I agree with Chester about racing shells in a car w/o a roll bar. -Bobby > -----Original Message----- > From: Roy Kao > > I've asked previously about the use of a Sparco Evo2 (Evo L) > seat in my E36 > M3 in combination with the 3-point seatbelt. > > TC Kline sells the Recaro seats while others also sell OMP > and Sparco seats. > > What do the digesters use in their car? Roy, base your decision on what seat fits *you* best not what everyone else is running. For example you were asking about Sparco Evo2s which to me says you're a big dude. I float in those seats. Best ones for me are either the Momo Acropolis or the Sparco Pro2000. -Carlos.

Even though SCCA's new Street Touring Ultra Solo II class allows fixed backed seats, I am likely to go with the Recaro Speed seats. The other thing I want to maintain with any new seat is for/aft and height adjustability. I am 5'5" and I do not want to sit any lower in the car that I am with the stock seat at its lowest height. Anyone know of sliders/mounts for Recaros that can do all that? Thanks, -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com

Yeah, my ultimate goal is to sit in or drive a car that has the exact combination of seat and sliders/brackets before I purchase. Thanks, -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com

You don't say where you live (high ambient?) or what kind of driving your car will see (track?), but with the impending supercharger I'd be thinking about total cooling capacity. Couple that to the miles on your car and serious consideration of a new radiator, preferably aluminum and high capacity, is in order. And maybe an oil cooler. Neil 96 MM3

#8. standard E36 converson to M3, any pitfalls? - from John Phillips

Date: Tue, 26 Oct 2004 17:19:51 +0000 From: "John Phillips" <jlphil@hotmail.com> Subject: standard E36 converson to M3, any pitfalls? I'm assessing options for repairing/replacing my '95 M3 damaged a few weeks ago in a track incident. One option: buy a clean 318is, 318ti, or similar, and swap in all the '95 M3 parts including engine, trans, suspension, etc. Are there any pitfalls or cautions to such an enterprise, or any known articles/sites describing others' similar experience? My main concern is that it be a straight bolt-up swap, requiring no fabrication, and that the electronics, ECU and otherwise, be compatible. Thanks as always for your help. I ran the Schroth 4pt belts in my M3/4 for 2-3 years, track and autox, and was very happy with their performance in terms of holding me in the seat (instead of me holding on :-)). For this, and ANY safety related issue, I would also suggest contacting Joe Marko at HMS Motorsport. They handle the Schroth belts (I bought mine there), as well as being an authorized HANS device dealer (on my list for 2005 race season prep). To make it a true swap, there is some fabrication involved. The M3 chassis has some reinforcements that the rest of the 3-series does not. For example, the diff mounts have reinforcement plates installed at the factory. They are cheap to buy and expensive to install: http://www.tcdesignfab.com/E36%20diff%20mount.htm You will also need to swap the engine wiring harness, which is a bit painful. The bigger issue, IMHO, is that your VIN will reflect a non-M car and your resale will suffer dramatically. Given that, if you do this swap and then want to sell the car down the road, get in touch. It'll make a nice, cheap basis for a Club Race car. :) - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net
