#3. FS: Two Outter Tie Rods for E36's - from Tim Gergen

Date: Tue, 26 Oct 2004 13:50:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Tim Gergen <tgergen@yahoo.com> Subject: FS: Two Outter Tie Rods for E36's I mistakenly bought both outter tie rods for my car (97 M3) when I needed the assembly (had a bad inner joint). Thus, I have for sale two outter tie rod assemblies for an E36. I know they fit the M3, check for fitment with other 3 series. I think these are univeral to E36's through some research I did. These are Lemeforder arms, not el cheapo's. I am looking to get about $60 shipped. Email me privately if you are interested. tgergen@yahoo.com. I did install them, and then wiggled the wheel and figured out that the inner joint was bad. They were then uninstalled! They look and ARE brand new....they were not driven. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Tim --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Address AutoComplete - You start. We finish.

In my case, the stock hoses have held up fine. A friend of mine who works at a Boston dealership (Herb Chambers BMW) confirmed that stock hoses holds up fine. I have heard more cases of the radiator breaking at around 100K miles and most people change the hoses when overhauling their cooling system; if you change your stock hoses once every 4-5 years (for a tune of $25) you should be fine. Hmm, ok, so are these worth it then or just stick with stock hoses to go with the aluminum radiator? I might take my car to a track day or two and maybe even auto-x, but not sure if those would benefit me in any other way. ted

I talked to Joe at HMSMotorsport about it. They have a full set of sliders, mounts, etc. for when I'm ready. Right now I'm doing some custom mounts for my 325. Got a really good deal on an almost perfect set of sport seats. The almost because the mounts and adjusters were missing. That's why my initial inclination is go with the Sparco Evo2 shells as I've been in it before and they're comfortable for my size 44 frame. In the narrower seats like an OMP, my hip bones feel like they're going to get crushed in a turn! I've been in several other seats and the only other option that is tolerable is the Recaro Pole Position, but even that's a bit narrower than the Evo2. Did you know there is an Evo3 now? That is another inch or so wider than the Evo2 shell. Never tried a Momo seat before. I have been extremely pleased with them for the following reasons: They are wider like the Sparco Evo 2 & Evo 3. (If your waist is more than 32, you'll want a wider seat). They are lightweight at 27lbs each. I sat in more than a dozen different seats, including the Sparco's, and the Corbeau's are BY FAR the most comfortable I found. Since I use my M3 as a daily driver, comfort was a big consideration. Since personal comfort is different for every person, I strongly reccomend that you sit in as many different brands as you can find and decide which brand is the most comfortable for YOU. They are inexpensive. I purchased both seats for $600. They are well built. I compared their build and material quality while they were right next to all the other major brands including Recaro and Sparco and the Corbeau's were as good as anything else I saw. Finally, the Corbeau's were available in all black which allowed me to put them in my M3 (black interior) and essentially keep a stock look. ===== Hunt Hodgetts (404) 644-6020 Wholesale Auto Broker Atlanta, GA Note - I only have access to my email account once a day. #9. Fixed seats on the street? - from David Ngo
Top
Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2004 06:29:12 -0700 (PDT) From: David Ngo <rudngo@yahoo.com> Subject: Fixed seats on the street? This is true and something for everyone to consider. My personal justification is that there are several street cars (the E46M3 CSL, Elise, and 911 GT3 come to mind) that have fixed seats as standard equipment, with no details of additional rollover protection in any documentation. I think rolling over in my S2000 would be more hazardous to my health, especially since there's no room for the seats to collapse. :-) Actually, that brings up another question - what's worse, having harnesses or fixed seats without a rollbar? If you have harnesses and the car rolls over, common wisdom holds that you're in trouble. But, if the seats are supposed to break, the harnesses lose tension and you should be okay - right? But if you have fixed seats with stock belts, you should still be able to get pushed out of the way of the roof...
