Because the back (wider) end of the x-brace replaces the straight bar that's there already. There are 2 holes behind where it's originally installed that the bar will fit but you DO NOT want to install it there. This will block the engine escape path during a front end collision and put the engine on your lap. -Bobby > -----Original Message----- > From: Patrick Goss - PA > > Saw previous post of other lister, so why remove the existing brace? >

Trying to mount both in the same holes won't work. Moving the brace rearward to the next set of holes is *BAD*. In a front end collision the brace would prevent the rear of engine/tranny assembly from dropping downward and possibly bush it into the passenger compartment. Old brace must be removed not moved to a new location. One caveat that I ran into when I did mine (99 2-dr) - after removing the old brace, the car body actually spread a little and the new one would not line up with the holes where the old brace was. This may be because I used a full shop lift that held the car by all 4 rocker panel lift points. The fix was to lower the car down on to another jack set under a board across the transmission mount points (i.e. putting much of the wieght of the car in the center instead of the rocker panels) and it settled back together. DON'T put the jack directly under the transmission crossmember. It will break. Luckily for my learning experience, it was a relatively cheap dealer in-stock part. On the 99, all the holes in the front frame were already tapped. Once I figured out the alignment thing it was a 15-minute job. It took all of 15 minutes. Took longer to get the car into the air. No instructions needed. It will only line up one way. #6. Strange noise... - from docwyte@comcast.net

Date: Thu, 04 Nov 2004 04:28:13 +0000 From: docwyte@comcast.net Subject: Strange noise... Mounted my snow wheels and tires the other day and now I'm getting an intermittant groan with associated shudder from the front end when I'm braking. It only happens right before I come to a full stop, ie, when the car is almost stopped. I've checked to make sure the wheels/tires aren't rubbing, and I've taken them off the car as well as popping off the front calipers and pads. All looks well. A few weeks ago I took off my race pads and put the Ultimates back on and flushed the system with Ate Typ200. No issues till I mounted the new snow wheels and tires... Any suggestions? I plan on swapping the race pads back in tomorrow afternoon. It almost feels like something is hanging up in the front brakes... -josh

Could this just be pad material transfer/deposits from the different compounds? Possibly amplified by the change in temps?? Jonathan L. I am looking for a competent place to replace my orig windshield in my car. I am hoping that someone on the list has some experience and can recommend someone that knows they need to replace the little rubber gutter things on the sides because its the proper way to do it kind of thing.
