I replaced the lower line with a high pressure hose and a couple of clamps. Makes it easy to drain/refill. I used Redline ATF/Mobil 1 ATF last time I flushed it. -Justin '76 02 '97 m3 http://www.bmw2002.net

Ditto. :-) The Owners Manual indicates "ATF", no Dexron spec. And I just talked to my mechanic, since we just did a P/S system overhaul on the M3 and he puts in Red Line ATF (not the "D4" variety). According to Red Line's website their "plain" ATF is a Dexron II spec (whereas their D4 ATF is a Dexron III spec). He also said there's not a big difference between Dexron II and III. It's probably more important to periodically service/flush the system and have fresh fluid in there, IMO. Scott, There is a procedure to get the new remote to sync up with the car. I think it is in the archive somewhere. If you need a remote I have an extra one I'm willing to sell cheap. What is the part number of yours? The fluid had never been changed on my car and after something like 80,000 miles it was like muddy water. The powersteering pump was also quieter after I changed it, as I sometimes had the occasional noise at full lock or when it was very cold outside. Why BMW decided to stop specifying any fluid change schedule on the power steering system I will never know. Even my E30 had "lifetime" fluid. -Justin '76 02 '97 m3 http://www.bmw2002.net On Wed, 1 Dec 2004 12:41:33 -0700, "Jim Bassett" <jim@jimbassett.com> said: > Quoting Justin Gerry <justin_gerry@warpmail.net>: > > > Every E36 I've seen is just ATF, mine included. > > Ditto. :-) > > The Owners Manual indicates "ATF", no Dexron spec. The two products appear similar to my untrained eye. Please share your experiences/insights with these, or similar products. For a street car I wouldn't recommend unless you are part of the fast and furious crowd. If a dedicated track or race car, then the lower rotating mass will help in accelerating and braking. I have the UUC STG2/M5 clutch. I picked it becasue it uses off the shelf BMW parts and has a sprung hub center..And it has the TDC hole in case you have to pull the head and retime the motor. Some of the others do not have the TDC hole. It is one of the best mod 's I have on my heavily modified car, favorite is the 3.38 diff!!! It revs like crazy!!! Matching downshifts is a blip of the throttle away! Its really, really, nice!!! With my current setup I can light the tires from a roll in first gear making nice high dollar smoke...
