#1. Rogue feedback - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Thu, 2 Dec 2004 20:14:49 EST From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: Rogue feedback Group. I ordered a set a power pulleys from Rogue and thought the order was taking a while to fulfill. I sent an email to Ben and he said they were on back order. He asked if I could wait until mid Dec and I really wanted something sooner. I commented that his size must be catching up because of my lack of knowing it was on backorder and having to contact him myself. He said my credit card would not be charged, however, my Paypal account was indeed charged. I've left him two emails in the last two days and haven't heard back. Is this normal? I've purchased a short shift kit and think his quality is good. Service and follow through, however, seems marginal. Shel Hart 1998 M3 2002 996 Orlando, Fl

I ordered a set of pulleys and somehow found out that I would not get them for a while. I don't recall if I called to check where they were or if a confirmation email indicated they would take awhile to get to me, but I think it was the former. I did call and talk to Ben and he said the bling blue ones were waiting for anodization and that they'd ship as soon as he got them. My friend had derided me for getting the bling blue, and I had begun to reconsider, so I asked about the black, and he said they were available. They shipped out forthwith and I got them right away. If it was the case that I wouldn't have known unless I called (again, memory is fuzzy as I was ordering a ton of stuff for various purposes at the time (and my credit cards hate me for it now)), I think that this is a disservice to the customer. Then again, this is the automotive aftermarket parts business, which sucks with respect to customer service, and the fact that he shipped out what was in stock so quickly blows me away. While we're on the subject, I ordered the wrong alternator pulley. I was going to suggest that they have pics of the stock pulleys as well as the aftermarket ones for the alternator. I'm a relatively smart guy (at least in some respects) and I spent more than a little time making sure that I ordered the correct one. In this I have faith that I can get that pulley exchanged once I get off my duff and inquire. These are all cars that have been repaired due to having the xenons stolen. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jason 97 M3 2-door cosmos black, perhaps up for sale soon. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Very nice, and what fun to install the first time :-) I picked up nice new supple rubber boots today to replace the hardened, rotting original ones that went back in sorta in one piece. (p/n 25-11-1-221-700 for M3 < $20 from dealer). The remainder is OT for the subject thread but since an ellipsoid/HID upgrade was mentioned I thought I'd post some related info in the interest of education. I've posted one of the links previously to the UUC list so there is probably some overlap. There is some good technical info that we may not get from vendors, for various reasons. As with most things there are good and not so good ways to accomplish things and the more informed the better. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html discusses HID lamp retrofits to halogen enclosures, with some nifty diagrams. The remainder of the site has additional interesting info. A fairly detailed discussion of automotive lighting issues including beam patterns, glare and much more can be found at http://dmses.dot.gov/docimages/pdf82/176157_web.pdf. The top portion consists of responses to an NHTSA request for public comment on headlamp glare and there are some interesting addendums. Of particular interest, esp. regarding modifications is the section called 'Headlamp Modification Factors' which begins on p. 23 of the addendum entitled 'Where Does the Glare Come From? A Comprehensive Discussion of Seeing and Glare in the Nighttime Roadway Environment'. It discusses, among other topics, the impacts of overwattage and 'blue' bulbs and aftermarket HID lamps. disclaimer: I am by no means an expert in lighting matters. I have corresponded with the author of the above referenced info and purchased some products from his company. marty '96 M3 (another little bastard car w/ UUC shifter and new Hella E-code CS/SL headlamp assemblies/ H7 bulbs) '95 540i-6 (UUC shifter and new Hella headlamp assemblies sporting 9011/9012 HIR bulbs) Kent L. Date: Thu, 2 Dec 2004 20:39:44 -0800 From: "Jim Powell" <jsp98m3@apexcone.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] short shift opinions Well there is one source of agreement.... You shouldn't be putting HID retrofit kits into most of the reflector type headlamps and it isn't legal to do it. But most of the technical reasons listed are unmitigated dog poop. Actually, he almost has some good points except for the facts that the arc positioning in most good rebased systems are at least within the accuracy of the halogen bulbs themselves. And the H4 Hi/Lo argument is pure fantasy. OEMs don't do it this way because they made the decision in the first place to use a dual filament halogen for design reasons or ccost. And then they decide to use a HID and secondary high beam reflector unit for the same reasons. COST. A moveable HID capsule is a very high cost solutioin to coping with retrofitting HID into a dual filament design in a way that can work. It certainly isnt done as a hack. The truth of the matter is that most all of the problems caused by HID retrofits into reflector or projector style installations are caused by the arcane and outdated beam pattern specified in DOT rules. A decent lamp COULD be made in halogen that would also be could also be HID legal (except for the massive limit on output lumens) and that is where the NHTSA should focus its energies. Making good lights, not chasing dangerous solutions engineeered by desperate people trying to see where the hell they are driving. But make no mistake, most of this article is crap made up to sell product. In the lab, it doesn't work out this way. Trust me, I have spent the last 6 months developing DOT legal HID headlamp replacements. Not selling another solution, instead. I was wondering if the list here had any thoughts/ideas on some of these issues: 1/ no heated washer jets? do i need new ones? bad tempurature sensor? 2/ no heated door locks? same as above? 3/ no heated mirrors? do i need new glass? if so, what is the pn for both sides? 4/ bad ds seat heater elements, anyone have part numbers? 5/ one touch rollup on the drivers side is flaking out. i think the door/ window needs to be adjusted. sometimes its just plain a pain in the butt to open the door unless i apply pressure to the door before pulling the handle. thanks for any help that can be provided. chad __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Given the car is effectively one year old now that 2005's are out and these were repaired, I would ask for a lot deeper discount - maybe start with $5K off invoice and see how that works? I do not know the numbers on the car, what are we talking about, $52K sticker, $45K invoice, $42,500 asking price, or $10K off MSRP? $40K seems more like it, I am not sure the cars ever sold at sticker except when they first came out. You could likely get a new CTS-V for less too - food for thought. Although the S4 did barely edge out the Caddy in the latest 3-way comparo test in C&D but clearly beat the $10K more spensive baby benz AMG car. Very short throw with a crisp feel. You know its in gear ! When you install you can see the high quality of the UUC shifter. On the 2002 M3 I actually took out another brand (don't know which) that was lousy.
