Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 14:04:02 -0600 From: Peter Wheeler <peter@bavarianonline.com> Subject: Lighting / Pulling Lighting: Are the only HID choices Bosch, ZKW, and Depo? Does anyone on here have any of these, and would they recommend any particular one (or say beware any of them)? Is Umnitza the best source, or is there another place? Just looking for opinions of owners before dropping the money. Thanks. Pulling: I am aware there are many manufacturers of the pulleys: Rogue, Eurosport, UUC, VAC, Victory Prod Design; does anybody have any experience with any of these while having a Bosch 140 amp alternator with a normal diameter pulley? It seems that Eurosport is the only one to offer a pulley kit with a lighter but same diameter pulley for their kit if you choose. Is the grooving different on any of these pulley kits (and therefore belt) that would not allow them to work with the pulley that is already on the alternator? Thanks again. I would stay away since they are quite fragile when it comes to the plastic. The plastic is very brittle and I would not recommend them to anyone. The build quality is marginal and I broke a tab doing something that should not have broken anything. If you buy them, check them carefully and be sure you can send them back. If I was to do it again, I'd spend the extra money to buy either the Bosch or ZKW. Umnitza seems to be the best source for any of the mentioned lights. Mine came from there although the HID retrofit did not. #5. Borla exhaust update - from Jeff Thompson

Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 16:40:01 -0500 From: Jeff Thompson <jthompson@telco.com> Subject: Borla exhaust update People, Thanks for the overwhelming response on the exhaust, more than 5 people have gotten touch with me already. HOWEVER, I screwed up a bit in describing it. It is slightly used, but in excellent shape. There is one small dent in the muffler body itself, but the tips are perfect. Re-reading I can see how it could have been implied that it was new and I don't want anybody to be unhappy. I actually bought this from Josh on this list a while ago, so he might be able to chime in on how long he had it for. I'm really sorry for the omission, I just wasn't paying close enough attention to what I was writing. If I have already replied to you and you are no longer interested due to the exhaust being used just shoot me another e-mail and I'll understand completely. Jeff

I gave up after one year and traded mine for a 2004 Z06. Solved the sports car need right-quick. I miss the M3 a lot more than the M5 now, but not so much whenever I'm driving the Z06 :-) Scott on 12/10/04 2:34 PM, Jamie Howton at jhowton@gmail.com wrote: > Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 16:23:50 -0600 > From: Jamie Howton <jhowton@gmail.com> > Subject: 4 doors - WAS: [E36M3] Random stuff for sale > > Speaking of 4 doors I just bought a 2000 M5. I test drove an E46 M3 and it wasn't bad but it just didn't have the back seat room of the M5. My family would kill me if I bought another coupe and the 330i just wasn't doing it in the excitement department any more. I will probably end up with a C5 Z06 one day too. It's the car that Porsche should have developed the 928 into, just with a cr@ppy GM interior. Regards Jamie Howton

Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 23:42:53 -0800 From: Scott M <smlists@pacbell.net> Subject: Re: 4 doors - WAS: [E36M3] Random stuff for sale agreed the interior is not up to German standards, but the performance and the pure sweetness of the motor tranny combo makes it all worth it :-) But I think you are making a good choice - the E39 M5 is a great sedan and will offer plenty of excitement as the primary daily driver for sure, as long as you have your sports car fix in the wings for at least a couple times a week. Since I need a 4-door for family and business and I also need a tow rig, ski and camping vehicle and family trip vehicle my "sedan" is a full sized SUV. Used to be a Suburban but now that the Japanese are in the full size truck and SUV game they have built a way better mouse-trap - everything from interior to ride / handling to powertrain is worlds better. So now my "practical" car is a Nissan Armada. But the Z06 is driven at least 2/3 of the time during the week - almost never on weekends as I almost always have the family with me so we are in the Nissan or my wife's car, a Mazda Protege5 wagon - great little car. #10. Wayward high beam - from Craig Perrin

Date: Sat, 11 Dec 2004 11:19:39 -0500 From: Craig Perrin <cperrin@tampabay.rr.com> Subject: Wayward high beam With the low beams aligned in my aftermarket ZKWs, my left high beam is aimed much higher than the right. It's pretty much useless. When I align the high beams, the left low beam is way low. Is there a way to adjust the high beam independently? I can't find any obvious adjustment screw or dial.
