It is not needed for normal operation. It just helps to keep the rotor centered to make it easier to remove/install calipers/wheels. >>Seems like that would eliminate any future issues. Anti-Seize eliminates the problem as well. I drilled out one side, and I was lucky to be able to use a tap and reuse the treads. I've always used Anti-Seize at every rotor swap and I've never had an issue since. -Justin '76 02 '97 m3

Anyone in SF Bay Area (preferably S Bay) have a SRS code reader and re-set tool (to diagnose and re-set)? Any recommendations as to where to buy one? Thanks. Lew Becker

Date: Wed, 15 Dec 2004 02:02:26 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Spring querry Steve, I'm not sure I follow your question. I think you might have a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." If you like the suspension as is, why change it? Slight coil binding is normal (even necessary) unless you go with some absurdly stiff spring. All springs with a few miles on them will have rust on the top and bottom due to the coils binding. Even the stock springs will coil bind, especially if the junk OEM struts have more than 30,000 miles. I have a very similar set up to your M3. I've got Bilstein struts/shocks, Dinan springs, and stock sway bars with urethane bushings. I would say my Dinan front springs are slightly softer than the H&R fronts and the Dinan rears are moderately stiffer than H&R. I can see my spring coils make contact but I don't see any harm. Personally, I would not worry about a little rust on the springs. The Euro or Lightweight springs are not substantially different from the H&R springs. In fact, I've seen people claim they are the same spring rate - who knows? I can't believe the Virginia vehicle inspectors would notice or care less about your springs. Good luck! Lowell Seaton '95 M3 -------------------------------------------------- Steve writes: I have a 97 M3 with Bilstein sports and H&Rs. The PO got the package from Turner. I am getting some minor coil binding (there is a thin line of rust on the tops and bottoms of all the coils) and after my last track event I checked the dumdum between the coils and it was nearly cut in two. I am considering going to a heavier spring, even a factory one. And in VA the inspectors can get really anal about springs. I have the stock swaysbars and am pretty happy with the neutrality of the suspension. I am considering going to the euro spring or the lightweight spring, but am looking for some guidance.

#4. brake rotor set bolt - from tim ng

Date: Wed, 15 Dec 2004 06:47:41 -0500 From: "tim ng" <s14realm3@hotmail.com> Subject: brake rotor set bolt Stefano before doing any brake job, get a can of PB Blaster. Its the next best penetrant to the Wruth stuff. PB has a very high flash pint so it can be heated directly using a hand torch. I spray this stuff all over the set bolt and let it soak for an hour or 2. If you need to, you can hit it with a torch to use some hot and cold action. Also get a real well made hex socket, don't use those flip out hex keys, they suck, you cannot get good leverage to break the torque on some of the really stuck bolts. I got my hex socket from Sear 3/8" drive. I use a pole to push down on the brake pedal so the rotor won't turn while I am trying to break this bolt. Keeping the rotor from turning will give you a level angle on your wrench. This should do the trick. Also put new anti-sieze paste on the bolt when re-installing.
