Didn't realize that there were factory units like that. Very nice looking. And regarding the iPod, the Alpine interface is the only true digital interface. I want the iPod in the glove compartment acting like a hard drive being controlled by the head unit. As far as I know, Alpine was the only one to hack the controller code on the iPod (or had Apple's permission). -Jonathan -95 M3 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rex Tener" <rex_tener@yahoo.com> To: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> Cc: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net>; "Rex Tener" <rex_tener@yahoo.com> Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2004 11:33 AM Subject: Re[2]: [E36M3] cd changer dead, need new head unit advice > At 07:55 AM 12/16/2004 -0600, Jonathan Evans wrote: > >Interesting...Looks like it would be close to matching color and style > > > >HK aftermarket head unit with GPS: > > > >http://www.crutchfield.com/S-aG8rnluZ6ny/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=182350&id=e ssential_info&i=108TPRO > > Actually, you can buy the exact unit that was designed for BMW's from > Becker USA. #2. Thanks to the list - ABS Fixed! - from Dave Bell

Date: Thu, 16 Dec 2004 11:45:11 -0500 From: Dave Bell <davebell@cox.net> Subject: Thanks to the list - ABS Fixed! I've been chasing ABS Gremlins for the last month now. Local tech (Tim at Euro Tech in Mission Viejo - a great place to go if you're in OC, CA) read the ABS Codes, said it was a power issue, which meant relays or pump. Replaced the relays, so of course it was the pump. ;-) Found a used pump, put it in. ABS light stayed off....most of the time. Tim said no ABS codes were being thrown when the light did come on and I might have to take it to the <gasp> _dealer_ for more diagnosis. Someone posted last week that they were getting ABS/ASC lights when the car got warm. Hmmm. Mine was doing the same thing intermittently, but I don't have ASC. Thanks to Jim B for posting the answer - a brake travel sensor repair kit. Couldn't even get the beer open in the time it took to replace it and no more ABS light! Many thanks to all....especially those of you who take the time to post the answers, even when they've been posted before. Sometimes you help more folks than just those of us who are asking the question at the time.... Best wishes, Dave Bell 95 M3

Shhh, don't tell my wife, she might still be subscribed to this list. :-) We needed Nav, and the Becker/BMW unit was the best solution for us. I had not heard that someone had gotten a head unit to act as the controller with the Ipod, that is great integration. I am looking at a TomTom GO portable Nav unit to swap between the three vehicles that I drive, especially for when I travel to national autox events. <http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=12&Language=4> -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com

#4. Back Seat Replacement - from Lew Becker

Date: Thu, 16 Dec 2004 09:29:26 -0800 From: Lew Becker <lmb_cfls@sbcglobal.net> Subject: Back Seat Replacement Anyone aware of some sort of flat panel arrangement that replaces the back seat in the coupes? If possible, I'd like to configure the back seat area so I can transport my 175# Mastiff in the car. I'm looking for a configuration that is strong enough to support his weight and protect the SRS component (and my nav system component) located under the seat bottom, and able to close off the trunk compartment from the the passenger area. I can soundproof, pad, carpet, and finish the panels (and provide for securing the dog with the existing rear seat belt mounts) as necessary. Thanks. #5. A-pillar gauges and cooling questions... - from Som Naderi

Date: Thu, 16 Dec 2004 09:44:51 -0800 From: "Som Naderi" <som@dimensionracing.com> Subject: A-pillar gauges and cooling questions... Another two-questions-in-one-email email. 1) How difficult are the A-pillar gauges to install? I want to get oil temp/pressure gauges and either water temp/voltage on the A-pillar. Is this something I can expect to do myself? If not, how much should I expect to pay someone to do it? 2) Can someone give me the quick list of cooling system to-dos for an 80k '98? So far from the digest-search I've got thermostat housing, thermostat, radiator, and water pump (if the bearings feel loose). Anything else? Do the hoses need to be swapped out? Should I just purchase a stock thermostat housing or is there an aftermarket alternative that's better? Any requirements on the thermostat itself (particular brands/temperature)? One more thing... I've got the E36 FAQ, and I have a bookmark for one of the threads in Bimmerforums, are there any other good FAQs for the E36 M3 out there? Thanks for everyone's help... - Som

While I'm no audiophile, I would like to upgrade the stereo in the M3 at some point (especially since I plan on keeping it for quite a while - gotta get my money's worth from these recent reapirs :-)). I have the spare panel, the Eeastern motorworks piece to glue/epoxy in but having not seen the finished product I'm curious how much needs to be trimmed out of the sunglass holder. Anyone have a pic they can share with me so I know how much to cut? Much appreciated, Carlos 93 325is doing the whole cooling system upgrade and gauges at the same time...soon.
