Did you accidentally lock the keys in the car? No problem, just do this: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys (remote) are home, call home on your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button on their remote, holding it near the phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk!) Editor's Note * It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!

I wonder how many people are trying this right now? I never have heard audio from my remote. Considering the massive clamping, filtering and daa compression going on in cellular to maximize bandwidth, this seems impossible out of hand. Maybe Volvo remote's use whistles? Date: Wed, 22 Dec 2004 12:02:52 -0500 From: "Gaudio, Stefano" <Stefano.Gaudio@NERA.com> Subject: RE: Winter tire sizes Hi Alex, I had my '98 m3 coupe with 16" borbet type M with spacers (I believe 5-10mm) and Bridgestone WS50 205-55-16 snows for 3 winter seasons. The combination of the narrow tire and the ws50 tread/technology means that snow/ice traction is fantastic. I had the car through a heavy snow storm while traveling to a ski resort and I was the only rear wheel drive car on the street for the entire trip. However, the traction on dry pavement is pretty awful. The tire sidewalls are very soft and the narrow footprint/tread combo is pretty bad. I live in Westchester NY and the roads tend to be plowed pretty regularly when it snows, so I'll get something more like the Bridgestone LM-22 next time. I must say though that roads in the winter get pretty bad specially in NYC so the 55 aspect ratio and 16" rims save me from popping a tire more than once. Stefano P.S. The 16" rims do look pretty wimpy on the car :-( In response to: ---------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 21 Dec 2004 18:15:05 -0500 From: "Avedis, Alexander (US SSA)" <alexander.avedis@baesystems.com> Subject: Winter tire sizes I'm in the process of selecting new winter tires for the 1998 M3/4. I have Mille Miglia Glide II 17x7.5 wheels to mount them to. I would like to install 215/55R17 but tire rack indicates that this size tire would rub and I must go with the 215/45R17 size tire. Does anybody have experience with oversize winter tires on their sedan and are there rub issues you had to address? Are any of you running 16" wheels w/winter tires on them? Thanks for the assistance. Compared to the Blizzak WS50s on my E30 (the M3 does not leave the garage in snow), they're less "squishy" on dry pavement, better in loose snow, and only give up a little on ice/harpack. IMHO, of course. - Alain -- "You can't buff out a tree."
