I've had Bilstein Sports (latest version/stock springs on my 95 for 4 months. They seem firmer than stock but my stock struts/shocks were so bad I think anything would be firmer. No ride height change (I measured, right on spec)and I don't consider the ride harsh. Car just stays planted on any surface. Great fun on North San Diego county mountain roads! So I got a new toy last week, and when I drove the M3 this weekend it now handles like a school bus. What's wrong? Here's a pic of what I got: http://www.elisetalk.com/photopost/uploads/4/new_toy_01.jpg Robert

Are there any equivalent sorts of laboratories what will test a sample of antifreeze and tell you if there is oil or exhaust gas residue in it? Regards for the season, Marc LA

You find someone else who wants 8.5" all around except in winter when he/she wants snows on 7.5" wheels. You swap out half your wheels with each other. Now one party buys cheap Tire Rack 7.5" wheels for his 225/45-17 snows and the other guy buys a cool (used?) set of Fikse or BBS 8.5" rims for his 245/40-17 summers. What could be easier than that? The Dunlop Winter Sport M2 is an excellent fitment for the M3, BTW. Dave Hogg '98 M3/4 Unstoppable in snow unless the splitter is plowing Fikse 8.5" FM10's 3 seasons

Try driving that Maybach that's in the background for a week then drive the M3 again. I think you'll find that the bus like feel goes away. I wish I could have my own, but I can live vicariously through my brother who was finally able to put in his order on Monday. Should be receiving it in March or April. How is the sports package compared to the standard Elise? Is the ride bearable on the street? Hope you have many happy miles with it! #8. T-stat question - from k_boyce@e30eta.com
Top
Date: Sun, 26 Dec 2004 18:01:22 -0500 From: <k_boyce@e30eta.com> Subject: T-stat question Gruppe, Since it's come up recently, I thought I'd ask a follow-up question on this topic. My thermostat appears to be stuck in the open position (needle hasn't moved past the 11 o'clock mark since it's gotten cold). Is there any harm in not replacing the thermostat (i.e., continuing to drive with it stuck open)? I'm guessing that emissions will be above what they should be in this condition; anything else to be concerned about? I just did a Service II in which I changed the coolant, and I'd prefer not to go back in there until Spring maintenance unless I have to (kicking myself for not doing the t-stat when I had the chance). I hate changing coolant more than any other job I've done on my (or anyone else's) car... Thanks! KC Boyce '97 M3/4
