Thanks to all for the quick responses -- the second Sears I went to had a Lisle set, and it works! So the key is, two of the E8 Torx screws that require removal when pulling the head on an E36 M3 require that you have a 1/4" drive E8 Torx socket (standard is probably OK, no need for deep). A 3/8" drive E8 Torx socket will not work! I appreciate not having to chase down a Snap-On / Mack Tools truck tomorrow! :) -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Enjoy the pics, let me know if the links don't work, I'll e-mail you them separately. It's a nice piece, powder coated in black including hardware. This is no hinge (non-wussy) type bar. I can't believe the handling difference this piece made in my M3/4, and I drive in confidence now with no risk of ripping out the rear shock tower, (note the advanced design in pic). I have one of these myself as does a friend of mine on this list. I have one left over which I am offering up for sale to list for what I have in it. First $155 via paypal takes it. I will expect you to pay shipping and the 3% paypal fee which gets deducted each time. Price is right when you consider other more showy alternatives which perform equal or much less due to hinge type design. http://img26.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img26 <http://img26.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img26&image=masonracingengineeringrearstru.j pg> &image=masonracingengineeringrearstru.jpg http://img31.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img31 <http://img31.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img31&image=MasonRacingEngineeringrearstrutb arendbottom.jpg> &image=MasonRacingEngineeringrearstrutbarendbottom.jpg http://img145.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img145 <http://img145.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img145&image=MasonRacingEngineeringrearstru tbarinstalled.jpg> &image=MasonRacingEngineeringrearstrutbarinstalled.jpg Thanks, Patrick Goss 97 M3/4 ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm ************************************************* ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm *************************************************

UPDATE and more ideas needed: Okay, so last week I reported of some idle dropping/stumbling and a nice, new metallic zing that seemed independant of the stumble. I went through the weekend with no problems or odd sounds. This morning, however, there's a whole new party going on in this poor car. The first hint was on the freeway. I put in some throttle to get by a car, and thought I felt a hesitation, but almost as if there was just a quick loss of traction that came right back (very wet in SoCal, but these PS2s work incredibly well, so that didn't seem realistic) . Then I got to surface streets and started aiming towards work. From stop lights, as I'd give a little throttle, no problem... A little more, however, and "Bang!" a very harsh loss of power with almost an explosion feel. What the...?!? Still no CE light. Could it be a bad clutch/flywheel install and it's experiencing major but temporary slippage? (though I don't perceive a rise in rpm) I'd much prefer it to be that than motor or tranny. It's really scary. At regular throttle there doesn't seem ot be any hesitation, but if I actually try to go a bit, it scares the doody out of me, and that was just the last few blocks from work. No water under the hood, so I don't thing the rain is to blame. Anyone? Jonathan L.

#9. Seats - from Neil Maller

Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2005 15:57:49 -0500 From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> Subject: Seats So - With the impending arrival of a Cooper S as a daily driver, I've been thinking about more aggressive seats for the M3. Although these would be heavily oriented toward track use, they have to be OK for the street too, and usable with stock seatbelts as well as a 5/6 point harness. Here's the problem. When I go to the track I have to load tires and other gear into the back seat area. My TC Kline rollbar has its diagonal brace running from driver side top to passenger side bottom, and of course a horizontal bar for harness mount. You can't get a tire over the top of the bar, and the diagonal brace blocks access under it on the passenger side. That only leaves under the horizontal bar on my side, so to preserve rear seat cargo access it seems that the driver's seat must be able to tilt forward, much as the stock seat does. Although I might otherwise prefer a one piece moulded racing shell, at least on the driver side, it looks as if a much heavier (40 lb vs. <20 lb) steel frame seat may be necessary. Possible examples include: Sparco Torino with sub-belt hole: http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/seat/torino.asp Recaro Speed 5-point (successor to SRD model): http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/seat/speed05.asp Anyone BTDT or have other suggestions? They are awesome for a daily driver. Not hard to get in or out of. They are comfortable on long trips too as I drove the car from St. Louis to Atlanta when I bought it. If you get a set of these I would recommend the SpeedSource mounts as they put the seat lower in the car even with sliders. That way you won't have a problem with a helmet and your sunroof. I also have a Sparco Torino on the passenger side of my LTW and I don't like it. It sits me up in the car too high and the thigh bolsters don't feel right. I don't know what it is about the seat but I have never really liked it. Maybe that was because I was sitting in the passenger side of my car while someone else was driving it. ;-) Also if you are interested in two new SRDs I have a set for sale. They are black with red lettering. I bought them to put in a different car and sold the car before I got around to it. They are brand new. I don't have any mounts for them. I can get some pictures of them for those interested. I want $350ea plus shipping. Let me know if you might be interested.
