It's a 98 sedan with the HK system. I am going to replace the head unit, changer, amps and speakers, etc... I plan on leaving the rear speakers stock as they are just for a bit of fill. Can anyone recommend speakers they have put in the FRONT of the M3's that fit....I have ADS and Focal components in my other setups and I pretty confident the Focals are way to deep to fit the m3. I am looking for specific setups people have used in M3's that are known to fit. Has anyone actually put a 3 way system in or is everyone doing a two way system? How does it sound? The mid and tweeter are in the door and there is another speaker down in the kick panel? All advise would be appreciated. I am moving to Texas so consequently, I won't need these anymore. They are in like new condition. The offset for the wheels is 40mm. The wheels are MB Motoring and and the tires are Continental ContiWinterContact in 205/50/17. This is a sport snow tire so they still drive great on pavement and get decent treadlife unlike the bridgestone blizzak's. I am selling the set for $800. Currently tirerack sells these tires alone for $140 each plus mounting and balancing. Email me for pics. Brent 99 M Coupe

I've heard of folks putting in Focal's in M3's. I went with Boston Acoustic's, Pro 5.5's. Tweeters in the doors, woofers in the kickpanel. Basically replaced the stock speakers with upgraded components. Detailed without being harsh, but power hungry so there's an amp in the trunk to drive them. It's a 2 way setup, the stock mid is left in the door though it is not hooked up. With a MP3 headunit, you almost don't need a CD changer - you can fit 6 cd's worth of MP3's onto 1 cd, play it straight through the headunit. As far as rear speakers go, I opted to pull them out. Wanted a hole to the trunk so the bass from the subwoofer in the trunk could get through to the cabin. Can't say that I miss the rear speakers. The tweeters fit with minimal enlargement of the stock tweeter holes and the woofer went in the kick panel with a little struggle. I left the stock midrange in the door but I don't drive it. It sounds great and is a good price point. http://www.mmxpress.com/dei/speakers.htm Dave (Brother of Chris "Mr. Driveline") 95 M3 --- "Sean W. It is the poly set. They work well and you need to spend a little more time making them fit - and keep the dead pedal. Sound great and look stock because you do not see them. Sounds good Still wanted more bass so I added two 8 in subs where the rear speakers were and have smaller 4 in fill coaxes mounted above the subs. I don't want the 'thumping' but I do enjoy a full sound stage. Plus the German trunks don't rattle like the others. Don't think so either, except the M-Coupe did have a factory 'short shift' (popular swap into the E36 series is the M Coupe/Roadster shifter.) This could have been done, I'll know more when I get the actual service records (luckily AFAIK - the former owner had all service performed at one dealer, including - and I saw the BMW computer - 2K synthetic oil changes.. but I digress..) >As to the movement, once you get it up in the air, check all the "usual >suspects": guibo, trans mounts and motor mounts. I initially thought guibo (which apparently no one knows how to pronounce, including me.. guiee-bo? goo-bo? gee-ueee-bo?), but since it seems restricted to 2nd gear, and seems like it might be more noticeable when making turns, I'm starting to think engine mounts. I did have the car up in the air about 2 weeks ago when it got new belts/thermostat/housing/idlers (while I was there sorta thing, it needed the $12 thermostat) - and I glanced at the tranny mounts, they looked fine, not mushy - and at the guibo - which had no obvious hunks out of it. What I didn't look at - was the front motor mounts. D'uh on me. >Basically, you're in "investigation" mode, especially since the car is >new-to-you. Yup. #8. Ideas for Demagnetizing M3 Tappets? - from Andrew Kalman

As part of my M3 head rebuild I've discovered that the tappets have become slightly magnetized. Given the apparent lack of attention that BMW gave my engine in terms of cleanliness during assembly, this is a bit worrisome. Anybody have an idea on how I can demagnetize these puppies? The're about 1.5" in diameter. Most of the "hand" demagnetizers are too small and are more suited for screwdrivers, etc. Thanks, -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. #11. Guibo - update.. and question. - from Don Eilenberger
Top
Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2005 22:55:07 -0500 From: Don Eilenberger <deilenberger@yahoo.com> Subject: Guibo - update.. and question. I did some more exploring tonight. Took off the shift boot and started playing with the foam rubber noise goober (tech-term) located under it. It appears to have shrunk with age - if I lined up the back (towards rear of the car) end of it with the opening in the console - the front end didn't line up.. and vise-versa. What it does seem to do is push the shifter forwards, especially in 2nd gear - after I put the car into reverse and it moves forwards. So - I super-glued it to the rear edge of the console opening so it couldn't move forwards.. and then went for a quick drive. 2nd gear is now smooth, unless I push the lever forwards with a bit of pressure, as the foam ring had been doing.. but I can now feel a bit of vibration in 3rd, which had been smooth before. I've heard reports of bad 2nd gear syncro's on BMW transmissions and I think I know why they go bad.. the foam rubber sound insulation is pushing the lever enough that the synchro is engaged whenever you're in 2nd. This is NOT good for synchros or shifting rails and forks. So - the question - in looking in my ETK and the on-line one, they show the foam rubber bushing under the shifter section but say it was not used in this car (using the car VIN.) Anyone know if they have one? Or was this something done that shouldn't have been done? I did find it listed for the coupes and sedans.. but not the convertibles. I'm tempted to either order a new one (looked it up on a 328i stick shift: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CD33&mospid=47501&prod=19970600&btnr=25_0014&hg=25&fg=10 - part #13, and it's a whopping $8.00) or just remove it and live with a bit more noise (with a convertible I don't think this noise would be an issue..) Will still be looking under the car on Saturday, making sure everything else looks OK. BTW - did get the service records from the former owner today.. and WOW - did they spend some $$$. It got a new top under the factory warranty about 2 years ago, but then followed a sequence of adjusting the top every 2 months that lasted for close to a year. There were SRS problems that persisted until every module and the wiring harness for the SRS was replaced - BMWNA good-will. Not to count the entire new front suspension for $2,400 about a year ago, new brakes for $600 about 6 months ago and lots of other expensive jobs. I'm sorta hoping the repairs have quieted down by now.. really hoping. Best, Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ - http://www.njsbmwr.org/
