Hudson" <jwhud@budget.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Possible to program door locks Yes, Clifford alarms, if installed correctly, will double lock your car. The model name/number will be on the brain which is usually located under the dash. Mine is on the pass side behind the glove box. Your alarm may be in valet mode. If it is, the alarm will not be active. Only the keyless entry will work. So, it will lock/unlock the car but never activate the alarm. If the system is in valet mode, your LED will be ON constantly.........not blinking. If you want to send me a pic of your remote, privately, I may be able to identify which system you have. Or, at least, narrow it down a little. If you can't do a pic, try to describe it. When I take the trans out of P, it locks all the doors. I found a forum that showed me how to have it unlock when I put the trans in P. I kinda like it now. There's no way to have this for the M3 w/o getting an aftermarket alarm. -Bobby > -----Original Message----- > From: Ron Buchalski > > I also do not like this feature. The alarm needs to send a double pulse to the auto locks to double lock. -Bobby > -----Original Message----- > From: Raza Uddin > > On a more serious note (but semi-off topic), do your aftermarket > alarms double-lock your car? I had heard horror stories of INSTALLERS wiring in 'back door' valet switches and since they had your name and address, they would come by later and steal the car they had installed the alarm in. I am the only one that knows where the defeat (valet) switch is hidden. I had to remove the glove box to get to the harness location which brings up answer #2 Yes, it plugged directly into the (empty) factory wiring harness. The three items that I needed to install that were not plug and play, per se, were a) the siren, which doesn't plug into directly, but I used scotch-locks(tm) to wire into the factory siren harness (by washer fluid reservoir). b) das blinken lighten. Which I had several options but decided to run a dedicated wire to the sunglass holder console where I installed it into one of the removable (i.e. replaceable) panels like the ASC switch the seat heaters (which I do not have) and the HK spatial expander switch. This is also where I installed the switch for my garage door opener but that's another topic. c) the valet or defeat switch which as I previously mentioned is very well hidden, but easily reachable. Overall I am very pleased with the Auto-Loc, the only thing I don't care for is the siren. If I knew more about it I could probably determine if I could replace it with a different (more factory-like) siren. It sounds too much like the alarm in the lowered Civic with the gigawatt stereo, tri-foil wing, and violet flames painted on it that parks up the street and drives to the local high-school (there is no such car on my street, I made this up entirely). #9. clogged drain tube? - from Andy Radin
Top
Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2005 09:18:02 -0800 From: "Andy Radin" <fourfa@hotmail.com> Subject: clogged drain tube? It's been raining a lot in the SF Bay Area. A couple days ago, I go to my car to find the driver's footwell soaking wet - like someone had dumped a quart or so of water in it. The rest of the carpet was totally dry. I really don't think I could have brought in that much water on my shoes. Is there a drain tube somewhere in the vicinity that could have clogged up and overflowed? ps - the past two summers, the car becomes very humid after running the A/C for long periods, then leaving the car in the sun. Huge quantities of condensation on the windshield. I believe this is also a clogged drain for the A/C condensation. Perhaps related? (it's not the heater core before anyone suggests that, just plain water, and no ill effects running the heater, just the A/C.) andy r. 98 m3/2

Quoting Andy Radin <fourfa@hotmail.com>: > Is > there a drain tube somewhere in the vicinity that could have clogged up and > overflowed? I know a somewhat common problem is the sunroof drain tubes getting clogged, and causing water to accumulate in the footwell, IIRC. > I believe this is also a clogged drain for > the A/C condensation. Perhaps related? Probably. Again, IIRC, there's a drain tube behind the center console, which I believe is for the A/C. The only reason I suspect this, is I have a similar problem in the race car (yes, working A/C :-)). Occasionally when using the A/C, the passenger footwell will get soaked. I recall seeing a drain tube behind the console, just have been to busy (OK, lazy) to get back there and check it for clogs. Probably should add it to this weekend's list. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.
