If you have the money ... another way to effectively get more HP is to reduce weight. There are "bolt on" carbon fiber replacements for the hood, rear deck, and door panels. How many pounds per horse? This has other effects as well on tires and suspension. -- =========================== georgercarrjr@earthlink.net

Here is the deal in my perspective: 300HP = 60HP = $5K mods < results at the track than $5K in suspension and tires. I'm not an hp guy, more of a handling guy and that's why I originally bought an e36M3. More power would be nice but I'll take suspension improvements over hp improvements any day. Nonetheless the suspension is just about perfect for the street. Soft for the track but that's another story. If you want to spend a few $$$ and get significant hp bump get a used z06 which are about to go very cheaply as soon as the new 500hp c6 z06 start hitting the road in large numbers. Not to mention the handling is not bad either. P.S. If anyone goes for the 'vette, make sure to floor it every time you look at the interior, it'll make you feel better, because it's no BMW inside. I am really at a loss to understand why anyone would spend $7K to $10K on hp mods. I had typed a long series of questions, but decided they were accusational and deleted them. As far the M3 goes I think the cam kit is the upper limit of rationality, but I must be _waaay_ off the mark. Please reset my calibration. There are a few folks (from the forum) using modified cams > from DSR (Dyno Spot Racing http://www.dynospotracing.com/cams.htm ) I was amused that their web site, after a reasoned explanation of why advertised cam duration values aren't reliable, then lists their cams by, you guessed it, duration: "256 Street Performance" "Super Evo 264" "Evo 1.5 268" Or should we think that those numbers are only coincidental to duration? They also give an almost entirely specious list of benefits of regrind cams versus billet cams. I say "almost" because one certainly is correct: price. Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2005 17:09:19 EST From: GGray657@aol.com Subject: 300 hp/ costs... Actually its less than 2k the 540 afm used are running 150, injectors are 200. These are the prices I paid for my stuff. I missed a set of injectors for 170. 800 for Dinan EPROM/flash!! That's a rip off! Turner/conforti stuff is as good, or better. I think the shark injector is only 300 or so...My chip was 249 for all the mods I have. DSR cams are 650 without core, with core 450..used M3 cams go for 300-400 better to sell them, the matching GAIC chip for the cams 200 dollars. Without the matching chip tuned for the cams its a waste of money getting cams. If I stay NA I will use the DSR stuff or whatever James has if cost is around DSR's, or Shriek's. I want to be able to rev the car to 7600 rpm. Turbo is where I am heading now, too easy to make nice HP numbers! Nothing like feeling some boost!! It's like adding extra crack to the crack habit!! Gary, for us OBDII folks, the stock Shark one (with cams) will not work and JC will not sell his cammed software (comes only with his kit). So you are either left with Active's or Dinan's flash unit. Dinan has a nice program, you can get their Stage 1 flash for $399 and then with mods you an upgrade it to Stage 2, 3 etc each for $100 until you hit Stage 5. > Nothing like feeling some boost!! It's like adding extra crack to the crack habit!! OHHHHHH YEAH ;) Ahmad
