#1. Door panel adhesive - from Steve Klein
Top
Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2005 17:58:28 -0600 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Door panel adhesive Hey, Gang- So I'm ignoring the little bubble I see in the headliner that's starting to separate (I'll ask for advice on that later) but planning to remove and re-bond the elements of my door panels, again, and I'm looking for recommendations on adhesives. I did it about two years ago with a foaming polyurethane glue that held in some spots, but not others. The plastic pockets seem to be the main culprits, but the insert on the passenger door is also loose. I'm currently thinking of a good application of silicone sealant/adhesive, something with just a little give that will still hold everything tight so I can get the car feeling solid again. Any other suggestions or thoughts? Clang clang, rattle rattle, crash, beep beep, Steve Oh, and on the whole 300hp topic, any word on the Eurosport twin screw? That would be my preferred method unless I can pick those pesky bits of McLaren carbon fiber off of the shiny S70 V12 I've got tucked under my bed. . . :shiftyeyes (use your smiley imagination!) -ShiftyKlein

I used to own a '99 Corvette FRC. Suspension wise, the only thing I did was lower the car a few inches. It handles very well at the track...needless to say, I was able to attain 410 RWHP NA and 500 RWHP with nitrous. Hell if I know why I added the nitrous, but for some reason, the 22 yr old in me wanted to see 500 RWHP on the dyno. I sold the car and bought another M3, this time a '97 (previously owned a '95). I did have to take time off from work after a few track events...it seems Comp Cams had a bad batch of valve springs and I had to change 4 (2 after each track event). The interior was definitely lacking and the noise after modifications was deafening. I don't regret it one bit, but if I were to get a dedicated track car, an '02+ Z06 would be the car of choice. I have a 2000 C5 (hardtop like a ZO6) with basic bolt ons, full ZO6 suspension, Koni SAs, alignment and SO3 tires. It is not loud at all. In fact, my M3 with the Conforti intake makes more racket at WOT. My 98 M3/4 has intake and sharked, full GC race coil overs with CC plates and eibach sways and SO3s all around. I have corner balanced it and it has a competition alignment. I can say that even without ZO6 power levels, the C5 could roundly spank the M3 on a road course or drag strip. The M3 handles GREAT and is definitely easier to drive at the limit but people WAY underestimate the handling of the C5. The C5 with non runflat tires and better shocks handles great. Getting back to the why would we need more power question. It is addicting. If there is one thing that the M3 lacks in the handling area is the ability to rotate the car with the throttle at stock hp levels. Even with cams, unless you take weight out of the car it just doesn't have the grunt. Fortunately, I can hop in the C5 when I'm jonesin' for some torque. If I didn't have the C5, I would probably be shopping for some type of supercharger for the M3. It just makes a car that much more satisfying to drive for me. We have shared your pain and will stand by you always ! BTW, you must need spark plugs by now. I noticed they are on sale. :)
