#1. Roll Bar Padding - from Jonathan Evans

At least that's what happened on my miata. Of course this is on a convertible. The Hard Dog rollbar for the miata actually came with a custom molded SFI pad. Fits very well. -Jonathan E. -95 M3 -92 miata

Dan, Another option is to get a remanufactured 3.2L engine (I don't think 3.0L are available) from BMW. I think a new engine from BMW will cost about $6.5K after the core return of you old engine. Add another $2 or so to for installation and you are about the same $9K but you will have a new engine with a BMW warranty. The 3.2L is higher output than the 3.0L regardless of what BMW advertised. A 3.2L is at least 250 hp if the 3.0L is 240 hp. The problem with the Euro motor is the obscenely expensive cost of parts if you have to do anything to it. But if you do the Euro option, don't bother with the older 3.0L 286 hp engine. Get the 321 hp 3.2L engine. It will be nearly as easy to install in a '95 M3 as the older motor. Just make sure you get all of the wiring harness, DME and dashboard. Lowell Seaton '95 M3

#3. Ellipsoid Driving Lights - from Jonathan Evans

Just noticed that I never connected the 'driving light' wire of my European ellipsoid headlights to the parking lights. I assume that some illumination should appear from the ellipsoids when just the parking lights are on, but not the headlights. Anyone know what color wire to attach it to on a '95? Doing a lot of light bulb R&R recently. But that cracked fog light can stay cracked as long as light comes out of it! Thanks, -Jonathan E. -95 M3 -92 Miata

For parking lights? I used one of the wires from the turn signal. Of course, that part of my web page hasn't been put back up at the new host yet. I can do so this evening. Jim Bassett

My '02 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab Duramax diesel gets about 16mpg unloaded on the freeway and 10.5-11mpg towing my 8000lb enclosed race trailer. I think the biggest determinate of mileage while towing is the aerodynamic profile of the trailer, not the weight (assuming you stay out of the mountains, of course). > The extra torque is nice especially if you are towing up hills. Walter said he didn't want to drive a big diesel truck every day. I didn't, either, particularly since I'm a sports guy guy at heart and I sold a spectacular '97 993 Carrera S to buy my truck.* But I have to say, I really enjoy the truck. The Duramax has a TON of torque (520 lb/ft stock), the Allison transmission is incredible, and people actually get out of your way when you're driving a 7000lb vehicle. :) - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar * yeah, that hurt

You may want to consider buying a rebuilt engine from a company like Bavarian Engine Exchange. Its something like $6k + shipping and they do have a performance package although I have no idea what this entails... I'd guess maybe just cam profile and/or some flow work on the head. I called them once to discuss a head replacement and the guy spent 40min on the phone talking about BMW, how I could try to save myself $ and racing. He seemed pretty into it and ran their stuff in his car. Ultimately, I did not end up using them due to high shipping cost to/from CA so I can't speak to their product but any time someone answers the phone and engages me as an enthusiast I gotta think they at-least have a shot at not sucking.

What an amazing tow vehicle this thing is - great all around vehicle, in fact. I'm getting ~15mpg average in combo driving, probably gets closer to 17-18mpg on the freeway and 12mph towing a 5500lb open trailer. Tow rating is 9Klbs. 385lb-ft smooth as silk motor that pulls the thing to 60mph in 7sec - it's downright fast for a full size truck/suv, and handles very well. The truck version is the Titan. Worth a look and drive before you decide on an American truck. I never thought I'd be driving a Japanese full-sized truck, but it blew away everything else I looked at. If you are towing a 8Klb enclosed trailer it might be a bit marginal and your only option is a 3/4ton or 1ton and at that level of rig I would agree diesel is the way to go.
