The early ones have a valve retainer problem that is just a ticking time bomb for many waiting to explode. Any 96-99 M3 would be my preference (I've had a 96 and now 98.5). Saying that 95's are more mod-able was true some time ago but is now just a myth. I'm contemplating the purchase of an M3 primarily to be used as a 2nd street car. Are there any preferred years and or options or years that should be avoided? I own a couple of E30s (325i, M3), but I'm just learning the E36 M3. I guess I haven't kept up on the development effort for the 3.2L M3s, seeing as mine is a daily-driver only now, and needs no engine mods. :-) Jim Bassett

There is the possibility of a 3.0L available here in Washington State, north of Seattle, in Bellingham I believe. -------------------- 4 -------------------- Date: Wed, 02 Feb 2005 11:31:02 -0800 From: "Walter Conley" <wconley9@hotmail.com> Subject: Money Shift. Date: Wed, 02 Feb 2005 16:19:55 -0800 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: Let's Talk Wheels! Okay, haven't seen any posts on wheels for a while, so I figure we're about due. ;) I'm looking at getting a new (or new-to-me) set of track wheels, and would like to go a bit wider than what I currently have. I'm on 17x8 BBS RKs for the track currently and would like to move to 9" wide wheels (or 8.5 even) and will only run the same size wheels on all four corners. I'd consider going to 18s, but would probably prefer 17s based on better tire selection. Who's running 9s all the way around, and what did you have to do in front or back to accomodate? My rear fenders are rolled, but I don't mind flaring them a bit if necessary, and I've got -3.5ish degrees camber in front with -2.0 in the rear (H&R Sports and Bilsteins, no coilovers). I haven't paid much attention to what new wheels are available, and the TireRack site only shows 9" fitments with regards to the rear. Thanks, and feel free to send me your "For Sale" emails too. ;) Jonathan L. P.S. Everyone please go out and buy the March 2005 issue of IronMan Magazine, on newsstands now. ;) ;)
