#1. Reverse Clunk - from Raza Uddin

Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2005 09:57:05 -0800 From: Raza Uddin <raza.uddin@gmail.com> Subject: Reverse Clunk I searched the archives and couldn't find anything relevant, so... When reversing (at parking speeds) and then braking, there is a audible clunk on the left rear side of the car. All the lugs are tight on all the wheels, so the wheel is not shifting (plus I would hear it regardless of direction). I recently did a brake job, so it might be that one of the caliper mounting bolts is loose. I'm going to put the car in the air and check this out tonight. Other than those two options, I'm at a loss of what it might be. Any suggestions on things I should look at while I'm checking everything else? Thanks in advance! Drive Safely, Raza

Either the coupling could be defective. The shaft loose, or it could be hitting the exhaust. Just a guess based on weird noises I used to experience in my (old Fart alert) Datsun 510 track car. Yeah, I had three of those at one time, before going back to college. Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2005 10:29:03 -0800 From: Raza Uddin <raza.uddin@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Reverse Clunk Mel, God I hope it isn't a half-shaft. I'll do some poking around to see if I can spot anything loose or out of place with my novice eyes. My only niggle that it is something little is because of its isolation that it only happens when I reverse. If it were something more serious, like a half-shaft, I would think that it would surface itself whenever the car changes direction (forward to rear). I only get the clunk when I reverse and only when I tap the brakes to slow the car to a stop (it seems more and more like the caliper shifting in the carrier). OT: 510s are awesome cars. Being a big Nissan/Datsun fan (and involved in the community) I have tremendous respect for the cars. There are some very nicely restored and modified 510s around the Bay Area that it has tempted me to go out an buy one. I notice mine do that because the cush from the rubber bushing isn't there anymore. Do the pads have rattle clips? Could also be a problem with e-brake shoe. Jay

#6. Used ZKW's - from Jim Powell

Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2005 12:45:06 -0800 From: "Jim Powell" <jsp98m3@apexcone.com> Subject: Used ZKW's The ZKWs are sold. I have a comment to make about buying from me these days. At one time, I was purely a hobbyist, buying and selling for the joy of upgrading the car. Back then, I could afford the time to manage a list of people who showed interest and try and modulate the first-comers to allow them some opportunity to ask a few questions and generally take an hour or two to make up their minds to purchase or not. Today I own my own business, rarely read my own email (pit bunnies beware) and certainly can't manage the "normal" buy-sell dynamics of the list. I wish I could. But if I could, I'd have too many employees. We run lean here. So you need to know that I'm still going to sell the occassional left over item (anyone want THE FIRST JTD strut bar ever made for the E36?) but Im' at a run all day and clerks are managing the sales. I really do apologize, I don't mean to be like an ebay Buy It Now transaction. But that's what it has come to. Jim

I actually order then on Friday, so they should be here soon. On my lunch brake I quickly tried to jiggle the calipers around to see if it was noticeably loose and nothing budged. I think you are on to something with the e-brake. Performance isn't affected at all and is smooth. Thanks again! You guys are the best! Drive Safely, Raza On Mon, 7 Feb 2005 13:53:21 -0600, Jay W.
