The culprit was that the wiring harness was cracked on the electric fan power connector. I repaired the harness but decided to re-install the viscous fan just as a backup to the electric fan. Given the damage that can ocurr to these engines with severe overheating I didn't think it worth the risk especially since I noticed no difference after I re-installed it. Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2005 20:22:08 EST From: AVUSM3@aol.com Subject: RE: [E36M3] Underdrive Pulleys - fan delete Gerry - I dyno tested the fan delete option last summer. Back to back runs with only about 4 minutes in between to take the fan off. The difference was 1HP extra w/o the fan. The engine was quite hot prior to the first test with the fan so I'm pretty confident in saying that the fan clutch was at normal operating temp. There are additional benefits to taking the fan off though - less flywheel effect, elimination of potential for fan-radiator contact with worn motor mounts, etc. John Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2005 17:29:31 -0500 From: Gerry <gerry@parallel-mkt.com> Subject: [E36M3] Underdrive Pulleys Any such results for the fan delete option. I was trying to slide the mirror while pushing it. That didn't work, nor did the "heel strike". I finally made sure the pins were lined up 'exactly' with the detent holes and all three prongs were SNUG against the mounting plate. Took an old t-shirt, wrapped the mirror, then put my fat a@@ to pushing as hard as I could toward the door. About two seconds and it popped right on. I agree that it's great they pop off and don't break!

#7. Pic Psgr-Side engine compartment? - from John Phillips

Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2005 03:12:07 +0000 From: "John Phillips" <jlphil@hotmail.com> Subject: Pic Psgr-Side engine compartment? Does anyone have a picture or two of the engine compartment of a '95 M3, showing the routing of wiring/plumbing in the area of the passenger-side hood hinge and the Positive battery connection there where you'd expect to see a battery? I neglected to take pics of this area before disassembling the front of my car, and now can't remember what wiring or plumbing goes there, and how it's routed. A rectangular plastic clip plugs into the inner fender near the hinge, and I KNOW something runs through the big clip. CAn't find a good pic in the manual. Thanks as always for your help. I don't get stuck in traffic all that often, and the big aluminum radiator surely helps some, but still: no. Lowell S. lives in TX and he'll tell you he has no issues either. Can't imagine you'd have any problem up there in the frozen north. Fan delete option in my case means delete fan, drive car. Messing with the t-stat or fan switch calibrations aren't necessary. Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2005 23:53:43 -0800 From: Raza Uddin <raza.uddin@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [UUC] HID Install Problems Thanks for all the help. I still need to get a multimeter, but I was able to double and triple check all the wiring and PnP harness. From all the resources and the web, everything is correctly plugged in and working. Here are my results: 1) With the PnP connected to the high beams, the HID's will not work but the highbeams will work. When I was testing everything, it seems like the igniters are not getting enough juice to pump out the 23kV. The HID will flicker when the lights are turned on, but don't fully ignite the bulbs. Interestingly enough, with the high beam connectors plugged into the stock, US 9005 bulbs, both the HIDs and the high beams function properly. 2) With the PnP disconnected from the high beams, the HIDs will work. 3) No matter what I've tried with the fog lights, they are not working. If anything, I guess I am lucky that when the HIDs are working, I don't get the dreaded LBF on the OBC. After I get a voltimeter, is there anything else I should try to do?
