I googled around, but didn't find anything. There's a small glass-on-metal noise coming from the rear part of my driver's window. It only occurs when going over bumps. If I drop the window 0.00000000001", the noise stops. I believe it's described in the Owner's Manual (aka RTFM :-)). From memory: - Sitting inside car, both doors closed. - Roll down window completely. - Roll up window completely and HOLD switch for ~5 seconds. - The limit's should now be set and one-touch up/down should function properly. > There's a small glass-on-metal noise coming from the rear part of my > driver's window. I do not know if the tint strip at the top of the windshield has any metallic particles, but I can confirm that mounting an RFID tag works great at (allegedly) triple digit speeds. IMHO, mounting behind the rear view mirror is the optimal location. Velcro strips come on and off easily and allow you to swap the tags out between cars as desired. Fumbling to hold one up as you slalom past narrow toll gates and clueless fellow motorists is just about the last thing I would want to worry about. > In NY, E-ZPass offers both internal and external mount transponders > specifically for windshields that block reception. TX also offers externally-mounted RFID tags in the form of licence plate frames, though the exact impetus for this innovation has never been publicly stated. HTH, alex f

The only problem I see with permanently affixing them to the door is the damage that they will do to you door 'trying' to get them off since they assume they 'should' pop right off. You still lose, IMO because it will cost a lot more than $600 to get your door fixed. I had both side mirrors stolen because they're easy to pop off. The assclowns even took the time to unplug the wiring rather than cut them b/c it was so easy (one good thing that happened). $600 later (mirrors and paint) I had another set. I got some really strong glue and put a few drops in each mounting hole. Now they need to take the door if they want the mirrors. In the 5 yrs prior, I've had them pop off once because someone bumped into them. There's no other reason for them to come off so I glued them on. -Bobby > -----Original Message----- > From: Foley, Brian > > > I agree that it's great they pop off and don't break! > > > ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm *************************************************

The battery-keeper gizmos are really too small to work very effectively.. lots of them use a standard 9V battery... opening one door and having the interior light come on will make short work of that battery.. and you would have to make certain to disable the trunk lights. What I have used with success is an old motorcycle battery (24AH) attached via the jump-start post in the engine compartment. Fully charged it can handle any convenience lights that happen to be left on. Suggestions? as I'm sure there's something better then stock? I've replaced mine with an Optima Red Top battery (top posts). Reason? The assclown that had the car before me (aka previous owner) installed a battery that did not fit (Wal-Mart Everstart battery). His solution was to remove everything including the vent tube, clamp, etc...He never did any spirited driving, but when I did, acid dropped in to the tire well area and that was when I discovered the problem. Much grinding, primer and painting later, the problem was solved. The only thing I had to do was make a bracket to hold the Optima in since it is smaller than the standard battery (also a little taller, but the battery cover fits fine). Dat '97 M3/2
