#2. Dead M3 Electrics - from Shane Kleinpeter
Top
Date: Tue, 1 Mar 2005 13:53:01 -0800 (PST) From: Shane Kleinpeter <sak335@yahoo.com> Subject: Dead M3 Electrics Hey all, My M3 has been acting strangely the last couple weeks and it culminated in not starting this morning. Last couple weeks it has been doing several things when hitting bumps. First it started off as the traction control and ABS idiot lights flashing when I hit a large bump. Then last week the radio started cutting out along with the flashing lights. One day last week after it had sat two days it wouldn't start, and I had to use a booster pack to start it, but it still ran and drove fine, and started fine afterwards. This morning, I hooked up the booster to start it (car had only been sitting since 12 hours) and nothing. No lights on the dash, no clicking, dead. I gave up and drove the Chevy tow vehicle to work... History: The car had electrical issues last year. I replaced the battery first since the original had to be getting close. Bought an Interstate MT-91. That wasn't the problem, turned out that the brushes on the alternator were dead and I replaced them, and finally put in a brand new Bosch unit and that solved the problem up until now. My initial thought is to try the spare key since maybe it's EWS related? Need to do that when I get home. Any other guesses/experience are welcome. I'm going to break out the Bentley and the DMM and pretty much go to town. When I did the diagnosis last year I did the current drain test and found no issues, and I suppose I need to do that again. What has me concerned is that it wouldn't start (or even respond) when I hooked the battery booster pack up this morning. Shane K. The converse also apply, you will not go back to track pads on the street once you try street pads :) . I used "intermediate" pads, R4-S, before jumping to real pads, SpecVRs. At the beginning the R4S did their job but eventually I was pushing hard enough that I was getting them to fade at the end of the sessions. No problems so far with the SpecVRs. I use them on the street to and from the track, no more than that. They don't have much grip when cold. They don't dust much and the dust is supposed to be not that abrasive. I haven't noticed any issues in my paint or wheels, well not that I clean my wheels much :) . #9. Have you upgraded the HK door speakers in your car? - from Mel Silva
Top
Date: Wed, 2 Mar 2005 08:09:09 -0600 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: Have you upgraded the HK door speakers in your car? If you have, I have an immediate need for the mid-tweeter mounted in the door. Somehow, I managed to blow out this driver and I am looking for a cheap interim replacement. I'm in the middle of buying a new house and can't afford to drop any bills on 'real' component replacements. So if anyone has replaced their HK drivers in the door panel, I'd be interested in relieving you of said paperweights. Contact me off list at melsilva@mindspring.com. Mel www.melsilva.net
