I have the common/dreaded "creeping corrosion" along the bottom edge. I tried to find replacement glass at the usual online suspects, but have not had any luck. New glass IS available from the dealer for $80.00, but was hoping to find an OEM aftermarket source. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Dave 98 M3/4 90 200QA 02 MCS

Since the fault affects a wide range of functions my guesses, in descending order of probability, would be: 1) Loose ground connection. There are many of these throughout the car. You're going to need to hunt them down and tighten them one by one, starting with those that are easy to find. Faulty grounds often have weird effects of the sort you're seeing. Start at the alternator, since it was previously replaced. 2) Faulty ignition switch or connector. Not likely to be the key itself. 3) Loose power connection. Less likely simply because there are fewer of them. Start at the alternator (see above). Have you had your codes read? The heater is built into the mirror itself, so you have to buy a new mirror. I noticed recently that the passenger's side glass doesn't heat up well anymore, whereas the driver's side (replaced with euro glass a few years back) still heats well. Not sure if it's worth $80 for a new mirror though.. Replacing the glass is fairly easy, just pull it out and snap the new one in. Once you pull the glass out, you'll see the heating connector. #8. Wacky tachy problem found - Need Gauge Cluster - from air2daa@insightbb.com

Date: Wed, 02 Mar 2005 16:25:46 +0000 From: air2daa@insightbb.com Subject: Wacky tachy problem found - Need Gauge Cluster As a follow up on the hyper active tachometer and stumbling issue that I've been experiencing, I swapped out my gauge cluster with a friends and all the issues went away. My guess now is that either a component in the gauge itself or as part of the cluster has went bad and I need to replace mine. Does anyone have one that they are willing to sell? A quick search of ebay last night found two at around $50, but one had been modified with funky white gauge faces and the other was from an automatic (M3 Automatic - WITW?) so I would rather get one that nobody has dinked with if possible. My car is a 95 if that makes a difference - anybody know? Thanks, Dave A Wacky Tachy ///M3
