#1. Water pump question - from Dmitri Zorine
Top
Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2005 12:12:02 -0500 From: "Dmitri Zorine" <dzm3@technologyoasis.com> Subject: Water pump question About to dive into replacing my thermostat, and thinking about replacing the water pump "while in there". I know back in '95 they had plastic impeller, and it broke, then there was the metal impeller, but it sheered off the shaft, then it went back to plastic but with different material and it was supposed to be ok. Did I get all this right? Which one are we on now? Which one is recommended and what's the part number? Thanks Dmitri '99 M3/2

Unless there's a price break on the shipping, these are a buck cheaper from Racer Wholesale: <http://www.racerwholesale.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=258> Walter, when figuring your tie down strap requirement, it's not just the weight of your car. It's the weight of your car times however many g forces are exerted on the car when you hit the brakes, the trailer hits a pothole, or even worse, when someone runs into your tow vehicle or trailer or you run into something. These straps aren't overkill; they're just about right. And yes, you do need to stop periodically and check the load. I usually stop within the first 50 miles of each trip to check the straps, and thereafter at each fuel, meal, and rest stop. If you start out on particularly rough or winding roads, check the straps in the first 25 or 30 miles. The same time you check straps, do a walk-around and a quick visual on your tow vehicle and trailer tires for pressure or abnormal wear; if at night, your trailer lights; and your coupling to make sure it's secure. --Scott ------------------ > Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2005 11:59:44 -0500 > From: tetice@triad.rr.com > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Again with the trailer towing thing... > > Hi Walter, > > I did a little investigation of the same thing and here's what I > settled on. > > http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay? > storeId=6970&productId=23778&R=23778 > > (you'll have to paste the two parts of the link back together - or > search for item #150090 at Northern Tools) > > $100 for a set of 4 isn't too much to spend to hold down a multi-K > dollar car. #8. Again with the trailer towing thing... - from John Phillips

Date: Mon, 14 Mar 2005 19:10:30 +0000 From: "John Phillips" <jlphil@hotmail.com> Subject: Again with the trailer towing thing... Walter,I started off using a set of straps from Home Depot, which frayed and became a little scary after awhile. Then I bought a set of straps ( MUCH better quality) from Mac's Custom TieDowns, at http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=25 I got the combo Pack with 8 foot-long straps, which has two straight straps, and two straps with the axle-strap loop option. It gives a little flexibility for use hauling other types of cars. I use them with an 18' trailer, and they work great on the M3, using the tie down hooks in the jack points. Caution: use an extra chain link in the rear tie down hooks to prevent the strap hook hardware from digging into your fuel tanks. MAc's pack came in a canvas bag, so it's convenient to put all the tie down stuff into when not being used on the car.
