The last PC game that I played that even seemed halfway realistic was Viper racing. Problem being that none of the tracks were real. I bought a PS1 specifically for running the GT1 and GT2 games. I opted for the Xbox instead of the PS2 simply because I was more interested in the Xbox technology. I'll probably get a PS2 now that GT4 is out. Let me explain _WHY_ I am such a fan of the GT2 and later Gran Turismo game. Here is a little known fact that if you are curious you can confirm. When GT2 was being created my car club at the time (The Norcal Shelby American Automobile Club, Norcal-SAAC) was requested/invited to bring our cars which composed a laundry list of 5.0L Mustangs like mine to 289 HiPo Ponies, GT350's, GT500's as well as AC Cobras and replicas all to Laguna Seca. We were invited by the Sony engineers. They had a Japanese hot shoe with them and some wild-ass data acquisition system. They picked several cars, connected the data acquisition to the cars one by one and had their driver run hot laps at Laguna. They used this data to model the cars and the tracks for the GT2 game. If any of you have the GT2 game, take a look at the credits. There are several names from the club list there like Cole Reif and Walt Boeninger among others. Check the list of officers here http://www.norcal-saac.org/ and compare to the credits. The moral to the story is that Sony uses as real of a physics model as they can program in their Gran Turismo games as well as using tracks that are familiar to us. I know that I myself ran hundreds of laps in GT1 at Laguna the days before I got my first real drive there. It certainly made me more familiar with the track when I went there. Damn, I think I'm going to get a PS2 on my way home tonight.... Mel -----Original Message----- >>I too recently had to break down and buy a playstation just so I could play GranTurismo. In fact, it's the only >>playstation game I own. I've been a GranTurismo fan since the beginning, and GT4 is even better than I expected. The Nurburgring is the most insane track in the game and I can't imagine people really racing on it

Trust me on the TOCA Driver 2 thing too. For all the reality in GT4, TOCA's physics, list of tracks you know, damage model and online competition make it every bit as good in a slightly different way. I only own 4 games... those two and GT2 & 3. Oh, and everybody with GT4, post your lap times at the ring in the M3 (mine so far: 7:43:33 with one BIG off)

It doesn't have as many cars (700+ vs. 233) but it looks good and I don't have to buy another game console. -Bobby

Anyways, does anyone have this logitech wheel? http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN%2CCRID%3D2250%2CCONTENTID%3D7226&ad%3DGT4_HPB_US Seems one with a clutch would be REALLY awesome but looks like this shifter is the closest you can get it. Is it worth it or just use the regular version with paddle shifters? Hmm.... ted
