Group, I am considering getting one of these little toys to help evaluate my driving style (those who know me can keep their comments on my driving technique to themselves.<g>). Has anyone used one? Where's the best place to buy one (price/service)? Thanks, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

Seems to work fine. Why would it be 50v in a 12v automobile anyway? -----Original Message----- From: Burgess, Kim L [mailto:kim.l.burgess@boeing.com] Sent: Friday, February 18, 2005 11:37 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Climate Control Fix - Again Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2005 11:31:46 -0800 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> Subject: Climate Control Fix - Again The local Fry's supply of .47uF50V Tantalum capacitors is "out of stock". Ref http://www.benhirsch.net/m3-maintenance/e36_climate_control.htm My online search of other local suppliers has failed me. Anyone know of a good online supplier of small quantity items that is also willing to sent said item for 'reasonable cost'? Fry's online wants close to $5.00 to ship a 50-cent cap.. And a search of the digest revealed an interesting debate with regard to which type of capacitor I should really use. Andrew/John - Can you comment further? Are "metalized polyester film" capacitors polarized? John - Are you still supplying you turn signal control modules? Andrew Kalman wrote <digest #3930> "Interesting -- our conservatively rated tantalum caps (50V, where the maximum voltage was 15V on the board) would often blow up in a pyrotechnic orgy and send their tops flying through the lab, invariably landing on someone's skin <snip> I've avoided tantalums wherever possible ..." Response from John Firestone <digest #3931> "If I remember correctly, they can also catastrophically short if subject to high inrush currents as you might find in a power supply. <snip> this particular part is used in a higher impedance (and hence less stressful) watchdog timer circuit. I will probably use a metalized polyester film part <snip>" Kim L Burgess (425)342-5539 ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm *************************************************

Well my M3 is my only car and although I don't tend to really drive it in the rain/snow if at all possible, sometimes need be, so all seasons are the way to go here (unless of course I move to CA or FL, hmmmm ;)) Didn't really consider 225/235 for rotating tires but they can be rotated to side to side at least. Way better than those staggered SO3s I got with the car, definetly SOL there! Also realize there is no "right" answer but thanks for the general feedback on what people are running. Was more curious than anything, cheers! ted

Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 12:56:36 -0800 (PST) From: Scott Spangenberg <cpmustang2001@yahoo.com> Subject: Introduction (somewhat long) Hello! I recently purchased a '95 Avus Blue M3 from Clemens Burger near Indianapolis. The car is beautiful ... 85k miles and it looks new inside and out. It has some interesting autocross history too: Apparently G.H. Sharp was co-driving the car at one point and selected 1st gear instead of 3rd ... oops! Consequently, the car received a BMW crate engine at about 45k miles :-) Some pics: http://www.sccaprepared.com/images/Dscf0041.jpg http://www.sccaprepared.com/images/Dscf0042.jpg I intend to use the car as a Summer daily driver, local autocross car, and do some track days. My goal would be to eventually supercharge (or turbocharge) the car and run in SCCA Street Mod class. I have been autocrossing and going to race tracks since I was a child. My parents autocrossed locally and did F&C at Nelson Ledges (in Ohio) back in the 70's. I began autocrossing as soon as I was old enough to get my driver's license. I have driven lots of different things, but only branched out into National level events after teaming up with Mark Andy in 2001 and campaigning a C Prepared Mustang. We both took home Nationals trophies that year. That car is, unfortunately, STILL in pieces for "upgrades" that followed the 2001 season. We hope to drive it again in 2006. Most recently I have run my '98 Neon ACR in G Stock. Though a fantastically fun car to throw around, it's still front drive and down on power. Then again, what ISN'T down on power after CP?? :-) My love for BMW started with my dad. He bought a used 320i in the early 80's and was hooked. He then bought a new '87 325is and picked it up at the factory in Germany. My parents drove it around the Black Forest for two weeks before dropping it at the port and flying home. My dad unfortunately passed away in 2000 at the age of 62. We still have the car. It is the most beautiful example of an E30 non-M car I have ever seen. Dauphin Gray with black leather interior. Less than 60k miles on the clock. Here are some pics: http://www.sccaprepared.com/images/Dscf0026.jpg http://www.sccaprepared.com/images/Dscf0027.jpg http://www.sccaprepared.com/images/Dscf0028.jpg http://www.sccaprepared.com/images/Dscf0029.jpg Personally, I have wanted an E36 M3 for quite a few years. For me it is the "holy grail" of dual-use cars. A perfect balance of power, handling, and practicality. That about covers it! Glad to be a part of the M3 community :-) -Scott Spangenberg -Erie, PA __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! They were part of the package deal when I bought my M3 recently, but I paid cash for them separately. I would like to get out what I paid which is $700 including lug bolts and the necessary 1/8" spacers for the fronts. The tires look brand new. If they've seen any pavement, it was very breifly. I haven't taken pics yet, but will be happy to if there is any interest here. Naturally, I would rather not have to ship them. I will deliver to within a couple hundred miles of Erie, PA, if necessary. Please email me off list if interested. -Scott Spangenberg -'95 Avus Blue M3 Coupe __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! You will enjoy it I'm sure. My own version of the dual purpose with utility car ended up at a Z06, but I would not mind adding an E36 M3 back to the stable at some point in time - maybe even a coupe this time, since I have a big SUV for real people hauling duties. I sold mine ('98 4-door) ~1.5 years ago to another list member and long time car buddy.
