Maybe try resharking the DME. If there is a fault there, you should pick it up. Sorry, not much help. good luck, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA 2nd Place BSP - PA State Championship 2004

I already have all the parts, but looking at ETK and reading Bentley manual, they show a gasket, but say is applicable to your car. And I can't find if there is a gasket on '99 E36 M3 or not. Could someone help enlightening me? Thanks Dmitri

There is no big paper gasket of the traditional variety that is shown in the Bentley manual. Out of paranoia I did use a little Permatex Form-a-Gasket (I installed the aftermarket aluminum neck) on the mating surfaces but I really don't think its necessary on the OE plastic neck. -- Walter

#4. Cruise control acting "funny" - from Scott Spangenberg

Date: Sun, 20 Mar 2005 08:25:38 -0800 (PST) From: Scott Spangenberg <cpmustang2001@yahoo.com> Subject: Cruise control acting "funny" I have a strange issue with my cruise control from time to time. I can't come up with any list of common conditions that make it happen. Sometimes when I engage the cruise, it will not hold speed. I'm not sure if it's actually engaged or not, but the speed drops steadily. If I fiddle with it, I may be able to get it to engage eventually. Sometimes the speed will actually increase after engagement. When I try to cancel using the stalk, it actually takes a couple seconds before the cruise disengages. This is naturally a bit disconcerting! Any help would be greatly appreciated :-) -Scott Spangenberg -'95 Avus Blue M3 Coupe __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Could someone help enlightening me? D, I assume you have the small profile gasket for the inside of the aluminum T-stat? There should also be a gasket that fits the whole T-stat perimeter. After that, you're good to go! good luck, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA 2nd Place BSP - PA State Championship 2004

There are many bad habits some people get into in their daily driving routine that need to be corrected to properly drive on a track. Key thing is listen to your instructor. Remember you are there to LEARN, so keep the ego at home (I don't know you Dave, so that's not a slight. The M2 was the first closed-face helmet I tried on that I didn't want to immediately take off. Good thing, too, snce I needed a closed face helmet to go racing :-) > Got a $10 head? Buy a $10 helmet. While I understand what Mark is trying to say, I've never thought that was a somewhat disingenuous statement. Is a $400 helmet twice as "safe" as a $200 one, assuming they have the same Snell rating? Rather, buy the best SA-rated helmet you can afford, but one that fits you the best and is comfortable. As another bit of info, the current Snell rating is SA2000. SA2005 helmets won't be available until October. Not a major difference in specifications from what I've seen; Snell issues new specs every 5 years. > - Mark, Bell M2 Pro, only slightly biased about GGC BMW CCA schools Ditto <g>, on both the helmet and schools. If the $400 is half as heavy as the $200 helmet, yes. :) Seriously, is bottom line is: buy the lightest helmet you can afford THAT FITS WELL. - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

#9. E46 or E36 - from Low, Roan

Date: Mon, 21 Mar 2005 13:21:49 -0600 From: "Low, Roan" <Roan.Low@Kellogg.com> Subject: E46 or E36 In January I totaled my 98 M3 and have been looking for a replacement since. Frustrated with not finding anything decent (IMHO), I then considered a new E46 with the Competition Package. Found a salesman & dealer prepared to give me a fantastic deal on an ordered one, and at about the same time I found a 99 M3 with fewer than 30k miles. If the e36 checks out, I am going to go with that, but am interested in the opinions of the group, plus was wondering if anyone would be as kind as to run a CarFax report on the VIN? Agreed. That's another reason why I like the Bell helmets - they seem to come in smaller sizes that some other manufacturers. They were the about the only one that was able to fit my pinhead :-) Jim Bassett
