Although the upcoming Lexus IS350 doesn't carry over the inline-6 of the IS300, this looks to be a serious BMW-fighter. 3.5 liter, 300 hp. Wow! The 255 hp of the 330i isn't going to cut it and the new Lexus styling looks a lot better. I never thought I'd say it but Japanese cars are starting to become very appealing. Mike 95 M3 90 325iX

#3. large EVAP leak, what to do? - from Kin K. Fong

Date: Tue, 22 Mar 2005 16:31:03 -0500 From: "Kin K. Fong" <kfong@mma-architects.com> Subject: large EVAP leak, what to do? Ted, Generally the problems are small leaks in the hoses, loose hose fittings, or a clogged inlet filter (spiders like to get in the filter and make a little nest). The filter should be hanging off the canister. Kin Fong 97///M3 NJ Chapter Date: Tue, 22 Mar 2005 14:44:04 -0500 From: Theodore Serbinski <stanson@gmail.com> Subject: large EVAP leak, what to do? Guys, I have the Check Engine light with large EVAP error on my car for a while now and I can't seem to shake it. I've bought a new gas cap and lightly greased the cap, but no luck. Replaced the clamps on the charcoal brick canister, no luck either. I seem to recall something about an o-ring I need to replace... was it the fuel filter or fuel pump? Also speaking of that, should I replace my fuel pump? I have heard of them going bad a few times and it's related to my large EVAP maybe time too? Thanks! ted <mailto:kfong@mma-architects.com>

However, >in the course of chasing down a problem in the race >car, I did install a new pump. It wasn't the problem, >but did consider it a "preventative" fix. I had one die on my race car at Mid Ohio two years back. This is RIGHT AFTER I had handed the check over for the lapping day and I spent the whole day trying to find one locally (ha!). Of course it was pouring down rain too, so I got to change a fuel pump (thanks Rich D!) whilst wedged between a roll cage with my legs getting soaked. Ahhh, the joys of racing... Shane K. The current ones are supposed to work fine. When I pulled those out, I put in the Delrin ones from Bimmerworld (List sponsor). Bimmerworld also sells the new powerflex ones. I do drive on the street with the delrin ones. I have heard that they are hard on the ball joints, and Bimmerworld doesn't recommend them for street. If I had it to do over, I'd likley go with the powerflex 2nd generation ones if there were much street driving involved. The lollipop fitting is not hard to put back on. It's a little hard to pull off the first time with the stock bushings. I think I used a gear puller, but with the powerflex or delrin bushings it comes on and off fairly easy. I thought that you were trying to decide between a '99 E36 M3 and a E46 330i with Performance Package, not an E46 M3. I'd suggest the E46. The differences will be close, but you can add some mods to the E46 to match the E36. -rb Date: Mon, 21 Mar 2005 13:21:49 -0600 From: "Low, Roan" <Roan.Low@Kellogg.com> Subject: E46 or E36 In January I totaled my 98 M3 and have been looking for a replacement since. Frustrated with not finding anything decent (IMHO), I then considered a new E46 with the Competition Package. Found a salesman & dealer prepared to give me a fantastic deal on an ordered one, and at about the same time I found a 99 M3 with fewer than 30k miles. If the e36 checks out, I am going to go with that, but am interested in the opinions of the group, plus was wondering if anyone would be as kind as to run a CarFax report on the VIN?
