#1. Replacement of drip rail? - from John Phillips

Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2005 15:46:02 +0000 From: "John Phillips" <jlphil@hotmail.com> Subject: Replacement of drip rail? Has anyone removed and replaced the black drip rail molding attached to the roof and door opening? It's the piece that runs above the door opening and continues back over the rear window. I'd like to replace the passenger side molding, but am not sure how it is attached to the body. I don't want to fish around exploring, as I'd like to not ruin the door/window rubber gasket. Also, any suggestion for a source for a replacement molding? Thank you for your help. JOhn Phillips, '95 M3

You'll have to remove the door seal at least for installation of the new one. I think this also applies for the rear door seal, though I'd have to go home to check since I don't have my m3 near me. The whole piece just snaps into place. There is metal inside so once you bend it, it's over. Once the new one is in place, you can reinstall the door seal. Scott asked: >BMW Keyless Remote Procedure... > > Will it work on a 96' M3? Should if it has the factory alarm. >- Do you know if the Subaru version is the same as BMW's? Dunno. Different alarms use different ways of registering remotes. The aftermarket one I installed last weekend (Audiovox Prestige - $40) uses a "valet" switch to initiate learning mode. What was really kind of cool was how it could be taught about the BMW interior light delay (where the light stays on for XX seconds after a door is closed..) To teach it this (which it needs for voltage-sensing alarm triggering) - you cycle the locks 4 times, then just wait. It reads the length of the delay-light cycle and adds 10 seconds to it. Worked great. Probably wouldn't hurt to try it on the Subie.. >Thanks >Scott, E36M3 96' Coupe Best, _______D_o_n__________S_p_r_i_n_g__L_a_k_e__H_t_s____________©1946________ Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ - http://www.njsbmwr.org/ '98 M3c/5, '03 525iT, '87 K75S

A while back I put together a list of the OBD-II fault codes as reported by the Peake code reader. It has a couple of blank columns so that you can use it as a before/after checklist. Available to you or anyone else as a pdf file, email me off-Digest. Coincidence, probably due the fact that the racks are remanufactured. I've had a new rack in the M3 for ~4 years, always use Red Line ATF (or High-Temp ATF), no leaks. Rack is original in the race car, also using Red Line ATF/High-Temp ATF, also no leaks. Obviously, YMMV. :-) My 2 cents, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP

Since there is no such thing as a stupid question (unless my teachers lied to me,) I am curious whether someone can let me know how the car's engine management system will adjust to the increase airflow. The car has already been sharked. Thanks, Johnny 98 M3/4 95K -- mailto:mclee@ieee.org

Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2005 15:03:00 -0500 From: loweseaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Newbie Intake Question Johnny - You didn't say which air intake kit you bought but it doesn't matter that much. This is a highly controversial subject on all fronts. First there is the debate how much an air intake actually increases HP. Some say it is signficant, others say not. Then some say theirs is better than the other guy's. Then there is the whole debate about filtering effieciency. The K&N oiled fabric filters are reported to be very poor and allow a great deal of dirt into the engine. Some people say the K&N type filter will harm the engine and significantly reduce its life expenctancy. Their preferred filter is the ITG oiled foam type or stock paper filter. I doubt any air filter will significantly increase HP, regardless of the hype. But to answer your question, the stock engine management and certainly the Eurosport aftermarket programming will more than accomodate the air filter. My personal opinion? I've used the stock air box/stock paper filter, stock air box/K&N drop-in filter, K&N open cone filter, Euro air box/K&N drop-in filter, and Euro air box/stock paper filter. I can't stand sound of the open K&N cone filter - it sounds like a sheep baaaahhhh'ing. I've ended up back to the Euro air box & stock paper filter. My $0.02. Others will chime in I am sure. I just noticed that the online registration is now open. www.tracquest.com For those that are wondering about the event. Thep rices are a little higher than a BMWCCA MidO DE event but you'll get at least twice the track time over typical DE events and there are a lot fewer cars per group. Those that have been to a TracQuest events in the past know how regular DEs pale in comparison. I'll be instructing. Hope to see you there. Jeremy Lucas 95 M3 (T2 Honda S2000)
