I'm sure it's the original fluid from 1997 - yuck. So I plan to flush it. Is there a specific flushing procedure? Or just disconnect the hoses and drain it out? How does one get ALL of it out (e.g. - fluid in the rack)? Also, is there a PS filter that should be replaced? Thanks. I am replacing the rack, so have one less area to flush :-) Regards, Stan Shaw Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net Phone: (413) 599-0399 Fax: (413) 599-0421 Excell.Net Owner/Operator http://www.Excell.Net/ 928 Owners Club President http://www.928OC.org/ 928Racing.net Team Member http://www.928Racing.net/ "Liberty once lost is lost forever." - John Adams

Kent commented: >I can't comment on how legitimate he is but he's got more than 70 >transactions on eBay since 2000. He does - but a strange pattern of transactions. Up until a week ago - he only BOUGHT things on Ebay - and that stopped entirely in 2002. He suddenly reappeared and listed some car parts to sell.. 3 small low value items, and then this engine/trans - which is a high value item. It smells to me of identity theft... someone found a dormant account with good feedback, got into it via a plish, sold a few items (or didn't - depends on who the "buyer" was), then goes for the home run (the engine deal.) Free delivery anyplace in the US is suspicious right away unless the guy owns a United Van Lines company.. shipping that lump of metal could cost big time. It isn't something I'd throw in for free. It just has a certain smell to it.. I'm a suspicious sort by experience (been done in more than once by scammers..) and I actually have quite a bit of experience buying/selling on Ebay (I do some for where I work..) and this one doesn't smell right. >It appears he's not going away. Dunno that. He went away in 2002 to suddenly reappear selling things. >I don't like the sending of cash but, if interested you could always ask >if you can send someone to inspect in the city he is in. He has not responded to three emails I sent him. He doesn't list the city he is in. That also smells. >Kent Best, _______D_o_n__________S_p_r_i_n_g__L_a_k_e__H_t_s____________©1946________ Don Eilenberger, Spring Lk Hts, NJ - http://www.njsbmwr.org/ '98 M3c/5, '03 525iT, '87 K75S

I once reported a suspicious auction and all I got back were automated e-mails. Those *ssh*les don't care if people get ripped off. What I like the most is Paypal's crappy service. I got scammed out of two items and all they did was say, "O well." So when they want to withdraw directly from my bank acct and I change it to a credit card, they ask, "Are you sure? You'll be losing ____ guarantee." What a load of crap. I concur :-) I had been using their High-Temp ATF in the race car application, but it didn't seem to keep the fluid from boiling out the cap vent hole on occasion, so I'm back to the "regular" ATF (one less fluid to keep on hand :-)). A rag safety-wired over the cap helps keep things a bit clean :-) And the filter is integral to the reservoir; about $40 IIRC. Cheers, Jim Bassett

#10. RE: [E36M3] HOT PS Steering Fluid Purging - from Mel Silva

Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 12:19:34 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] HOT PS Steering Fluid Purging Okay here I go again: Back when I used to get to drive at the track (dual income, before kid). It was common for the Mustang to purge itself of some various fluids. After cleaning up the mess, I bought a brand new PS fluid reservoir cap to perform the following surgery on, as it was less messy that way. I got myself some vinyl tubing and a matching MPT to hose barb brass fitting from the local HD or Lowe's. I drilled a hole in the reservoir cap so that I could 'thread' the MPT (male pipe thread) side into the cap which I sealed with epoxy (don't know if silicone would mess up the works and didn't want to test it). I connected the hose to the cap and replaced the old cap. The other end of the hose went through the cap of a 1 pint water bottle cap and I mounted the matching water bottle to the inner fender well with tie wraps. I made sure that the end of the hose touched the bottom of the water bottle. Now, when the PS fluid would boil over it had somewhere to go and once it cooled off the now sealed reservoir would 'reclaim' the lost fluid. Oh, one more thing, the water bottle requires a small vent hole near the top (where fluid won't readily escape). After this modification was proven to work well I did similar operations to the trans and diff. The caveat here is that these later items usually have 'vents' that thread into the cases. I replaced these vents with hose barbs and ran the overflow to the trunk of the car for the diff and firewall for the trans. This also keeps the track stewards happy to know that you are not purging slippery fluids onto their track.
