The Canadian E36M3s did, in fact, have the handbuilt engines. Once in a while, those Canucks get a lucky break. But no Elise for them! ;) Chester

And they had the 3.0L 286 hp Euro motor which was replaced by the 3.2L 321 hp motor in 1996. Only about 40 such cars ever came to Canada. The 3.2L E36 Euro motor never came to North America. The 2000 and 2001 MCoupe did have the current E46 (S54 ??) M3 Euro motor but it was detuned to 315 hp instead of the stock 333 hp. I believe it had a lower rev limit, which might have been a good thing considering the early E46 M3 engine problems. Lowell Seaton '95 M3

I think the HP difference is actually due to a more restrictive exhaust on the MCoupe, given the tighter packaging requirements. - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing Home Page at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

It could be partially due to the exhaust but it also has a lower redline - I believe it is 7,600 RPM vs. 8,000 RPM. -Wayne

Back in 1995 on a business trip to Canada, I stopped at a BMW Dealership and tried to buy a new M3 that was on the lot. When I told the guy I was from the US, he said he couldn't sell it to me. He mentioned something about pollution standards being different. I figured that was a bunch of "bull", but never pursued it. Maybe I didn't write in English the first time (I thought I did), but I pretty much covered all this yesterday when I posted (Digest #4224). THIS IS A SCAM. Better? After looking at the auction and the seller closer, there are a number of reasons I am confident in my conclusion. Later, Rich - knows why I don't post so much anymore... -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Wed, 6 Apr 2005 12:29:29 -0700 (PDT) From: Rich Dorffer <e36m3digest@ameritech.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] What's wrong with this? > -------------------- 4 -------------------- > Date: Wed, 06 Apr 2005 10:22:08 -0400 > From: Don Eilenberger <deilenberger@yahoo.com> > Subject: What's wrong with this? > > Seen floating on da'ebay: > > http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7966375704 It is 99.9% a scam. These scams result from those phishing emails when someone enters their eBay ID and password on an illegitimate website that purports to be from eBay. Then the conartist utilizes the once good account to set-up the scam. I have seen cars, major car parts, you name it. I have even found the past auctions which were used to rip off the pics/description at times, This is clearly an auction written by someone outside of the US (notice how the mileage is written and the bad English), the picture and probably most of the description was likely stolen from a legitimate auction. I bet you might find that in this instance as well or the pic hosted somewhere on the Internet... Report it to eBay, it will be killed in 24 hours I bet. You likely won't get much in the way of responses for legitimate questions posed to the seller. I imagine the original owner of the auction ID is wondering what happened... I have even seen where someone legitimate set-up an auction pointing out another auction where a conartist had simply stolen a portion of their auction description and pictures to setup their scam auction (it was for a Porsche motor IIRC).
